Ok kids, haven't seen this talked about yet, so I gotta ask.....

Eagles got the ball for the first time.....it's 3rd and 10, Garcia drops back, then scrambles ahead, looks to me like he crosses the line of scrimmage at the 30, I think, then passes off for a 1st down. Did anyone else notice that or am I the only crazy one here.

It was very close. The line of scrimmage was the 10 and it looked to me like his arm and ball were past the ten when he let it go.

Is it the ball or the feet?

There was also a drive that Romo got punched in the face and they didn't call it. You can analyze these types of plays all you want but the truth is that we were not either stopping them or making plays so it would have just been different, it would not have changed the outcome.

The ball.

He was past the 10 yard line after I watched it in slo mo on Tivo. I saw Gibbs challenge a similar call against the Saints last week, when the refs missed the fact that Drew Brees was 3 yards past the LOS.

Again Parcells and his staff have their heads up their arses when it comes to obvious challenge situations.

A stop there would have killed the Eagles momentum.

Yea, it was hard to tell.

At first I thought he did.

I was actually watching the defense lineman that was coming from behind him. I thought he would knock the ball out of Garcia's hands and get the fumble.

Yeah, I think he cross it, It makes you wonder how they miss these calls sometimes.

The quarterback's entire body and the ball must be past the line of scrimmage for it to be illegal.

If that were the case, then Brees wouldn't have been called for it a couple weeks ago. Or maybe the made a bad call.

I don't know about that specific play, but that's the rule --

Rule 8-1-1 (S.N. 3)
The penalty for a forward pass beyond the line is to be enforced from the spot where the ball is released when the passer’s entire body and the ball are beyond the line of scrimmage. This includes either when the passer is airborne or touching the ground.

Then that makes the no call a good call.. at most, just one foot and the ball was past the line.

It was the right call then because he definitely was not completely across.

I guess that makes sense why it's never called. You typically see a close call every week, but with the rule written this way, it basically has to be a blatant disregard of the LOS.

That really surprises me. I thought if the passer stepped over the line with one toe he was over the LOS in this context.
Seems weird to me but this is the first time I have actually seen the rule.

Yeah, sounds like the backcourt rule in Basketball. Maybe they made it that way so it was a bit easier to call, but seems odd.

That's what Mike Pereira (the head of officials) said a few weeks ago on NFL Network. It used to be just the ball, but it was too difficult to determine accurately, even on replay.

And there was this other play when the mean ol' Eagles offensive linemen made scary faces and scared out defensive linemen into not pushing up the middle. . . oh, that has been happening all year?

Well, OK.

There were several times where I thought for sure we were going to get penalized for impersonating a NFL team.

But alas, I guess we weren't that close;)
