Did I miss something on that call in the Detroit Game (winner)?

Help explain the Official's call on Golden Tate's game winner, or so I thought.

The knee looks down (partially blocked by helmet) and it appears he's being touched on the right shoulder with the ball clearly short of the GL....would like to see the next frame though

Doesn't seem right to get a 10-second runoff on a referee's mistake.

They could have probably gotten that ball spiked for another play.

It was the right call based on the rules but a tricky situation. In situations like this that are very close, refs should call it a TD so that they can review it. If they did the opposite and it actually was a TD but they called it short and the Lions ran out of time, they would have screwed the Lions on a TD. I believe it was 4th down too so the Lions would not have been able to spike the ball and reset...it would have been a QB sneak-type of play most likely.

Game of inches, that's the risk you run when you throw it short of the endzone in those situations.

Since people have bad eyesight, they have slow motion shot. Got watch at 22 seconds in. He was down.

If the view is partially blocked by the helmet........it's NOT CLEAR.

The 10 second run off seems fair to me. If the refs got it right and marked it down at the 1 yard it would take at least 10 seconds for the refs to place the ball and the Lions to get lined up to run another play.

The offense shouldn't get another down just because the refs messed up, that wouldn't be fair to Atlanta.

I like seeing DET fans get their hearts ripped out over and over. Reminds me of all the whining they did about the Hitchens' face guarding call that was rightly picked up in the playoff game a few years ago.

This is the reasoning, but it is untrue. There are actual game instances where teams got off the next snap within the 8 seconds that the Lions were facing.

First time I've seen a 10 second runoff without an offensive foul. So I assume this is a new rule. It was not thought out. Punishing the offense for an official review is stupid.

It's not a new rule, it just isn't seen all that frequently. I saw it once before, but the team had a timeout left so they spent the timeout in lieu of the runoff.

Lions got a raw deal here, not that I am losing any sleep over it. I think they could have lined up and run a final play if the original call was right.

Surprised nobody has mentioned the shot where there is 11 seconds left on the clock when he was downed (which I don't know how anyone could say it's not clear - leg is clearly hitting the ground to the left of the helmet, being touched, ball short).
