Help explain the Official's call on Golden Tate's game winner, or so I thought.
Clearly down.
Clearly down.
Nothing clear about that photo.
If the view is partially blocked by the helmet........it's NOT CLEAR.The knee looks down (partially blocked by helmet) and it appears he's being touched on the right shoulder with the ball clearly short of the GL....would like to see the next frame though
This is the reasoning, but it is untrue. There are actual game instances where teams got off the next snap within the 8 seconds that the Lions were facing. The 10 second run off seems fair to me. If the refs got it right and marked it down at the 1 yard it would take at least 10 seconds for the refs to place the ball and the Lions to get lined up to run another play.
The offense shouldn't get another down just because the refs messed up, that wouldn't be fair to Atlanta.
It's not a new rule, it just isn't seen all that frequently. I saw it once before, but the team had a timeout left so they spent the timeout in lieu of the runoff. This is the reasoning, but it is untrue. There are actual game instances where teams got off the next snap within the 8 seconds that the Lions were facing.
First time I've seen a 10 second runoff without an offensive foul. So I assume this is a new rule. It was not thought out. Punishing the offense for an official review is stupid.
Just about to say that. When he was down there was 11seconds left..Surprised nobody has mentioned the shot where there is 11 seconds left on the clock when he was downed (which I don't know how anyone could say it's not clear - leg is clearly hitting the ground to the left of the helmet, being touched, ball short).
