Did Jenkins really sulk over Carr signing?

I saw someone mention in the other thread about Jenkins not showing to OTAs that he's been sulking ever since the Carr signing. Now I understand someone being upset if they have been the starter since their rookie year and now there are 2 starters signed in one offseason. But I was kind of shocked when I read someone say that he sulked over the Carr signing. Is this true? Every team has at least 2 starting corners in on each play. I would think that a starter would be ecstatic when another quality starter was signed to play alongside him. I can understand being upset about being demoted from starter to backup, but I can't understand being upset about having another quality starter to play with. Can someone explain the exact details?

Sorry, I just thought about it. He was sulking over the contract that Carr got. I was thinking he was upset that they signed another quality starter, like he didn't want to not be the best corner on the field. If that were the case, that would be pathetic.

The Cowboys added two starting CBs this offseason not one.

Jenkins is no dummy. He knows what those moves mean for his future in Dallas.

so after the draft everyone and their mother says we should trade the guy, but then when he agrees, he's a weak minded coward who is a cancer to the team. LOL, i understand we're all fans, but you have to be able to at least look at the situation from his perspective with his career in mind. NFL is a cut throat business and he has to look out for him. this isn't high school ball.

Great post I agree completely

The Cowboys tried dealing Jenkins on draft day, but found no takers and had hoped to keep him for depth. He wants a new contract and to be a starter, however, and Jenkins isn't going to be a first-teamer in Dallas anymore. The Cowboys may end up having to settle for a late-round pick to ship Jenkins out of town. He's recovering from major offseason shoulder surgery, and teams won't be falling over themselves to meet his contract demands

The Cowboys basically chose to give Carr a long term 50 million dollar contract over him. Giving them both those kind of contracts just wasn't going to happen and he and his agent know that.

And for this reason they should just keep him and get a comp pick later. Jenkins WILL play hard this year to show he is worth a big long term contract to other teams.

of course he is upset. He has lost all leverage. First of all he is hurt. Second of all they added 2 guys that are as talented, if not more talented than him. He does not want to play for 1m this year. He played last year injured in hopes of proving to the team he is worthy of an extension...and it did not happen. The reality is...the Cowboys have Jenkins right where they want him....he HAS to play good for his sake (which benefits us)...and if he does not....we have a couple of guys ready to step in. At this moment Scandrick, a 5th round pick, has made more than Jenkins, a 1st round pick. So all of this probably rubs him raw. He could lower his demands what Scandrick got...and Dallas may play ball with him...but he probably wants what Carr got...and Dallas has already handed out there last big CB contract for a while.

Right around the time we signed Carr was when I broke down and added a Twitter account so I can read Schefter, Mortenson, etc. The first player I added was Brandon Carr. If I remember right one of his first comments after landing here was that he got a call from Jenkins.

Doesn't sound like sulking to me.

I can't speak to how he reacted to us drafting Claiborne because I just don't know. But he had to know the writing was on the wall.

At the time Carr was brought in the Cowboys didn't know (nor did Jenkins) they would find another starting corner in the draft. I suspect he welcomed Carr but became unhappy when Claiborne was selected. That was when he knew he had a fight on his hands to remain a starter.

:)

A couple things...1) He's still the incumbent starter and is therefore worried about losing his job. Claiborne and Carr are still going to have to earn a starting job, so it's a competition. It seems like he doesn't want to compete. 2) I can understand him wanting to be traded, but lots of guys want to be traded and still go to team activities. It seems like he'd rather quit on the team and hope to get moved than work hard and try to retain his spot. That's cowardly imo. 3) This also adds to the list of, for lack of better terms, soft moments in his career. It's not the first time that his toughness has been questioned.

Agreed. It was the Claiborne selection that led him to this point.

Though I don't believe he thought he'd have to fight to remain a starter. I think he knew Claiborne was a walk on starter the moment he was selected.

I'd take 3 starting caliber corners any day of the week with the way that the passing game has to be defended now.

In a way this reminds me of Patrick Crayton when we drafted Dez Bryant.

I don't follow twitter. Thank you for sharing this. Good move by Carr.

Some rise to the challenge and some fold. I am hopefull that he plays his *** off and contribution is valuable. I think he will have a bigger role to play than most expect.

This. Despite Jenkins feelings right now, he is a valuable player on this team. He is one play away from starting and will be on the field a great deal against multiple WR packages. CBs get hurt all the time and he provides exceptional depth at a critical position. Dallas would be beyond foolish to trade him for peanuts. He has to play well this year and knows it if he wants a big contract. Hopefully he plays extremely well which will help us this year and next year (potential comp pick).

Amen, exactly. We should get a 4th round comp pick for him.

We got a 4th for Bowen. Its possible (unlikely) but possible we get a 3rd. If we lose Jenks, Felix, and someone else we will def get a 3rd.

yea but realistically you can only afford the Carr, Claiborne and Jenkins for this year. Jenkins even if he buckles down and has a good season, is gone once free agency opens.
