Did KM get a fair chance?

Kellen Moore. One of the most hyped new coordinators in the league last offseason. Notably, that hype was coming both from outside and inside the organization. That's why I bought in on KM, people not affiliated with Dallas were as excited as Jerry.

Fast forward a year. Our first few games looked fresh. Then we went back to the true Garrett offense and started losing.

When the HC is this bad, I find it hard to say KM is a bust. What would KM do if the next HC didnt tie him to a junk scheme and actually allowed new ideas?

In my opinion it's just hard to evaluate anyone because everyone might look a lot better if JG wasn't calling the shots.

Thoughts?

yes, even if things went wrong, he entered into it knowing what was going to happen. it was to soon he wasnt the right choice, he sould have also known that.

fair, over, let him walk out and rebuild else where.

He'd do well with a good head coach

The receivers are open and Dak misses them. The Cowboys then fall behind and must pass more.
I'd say Kellen has done very well. The film shows that his plays are creating separation.
He can't help it if Dak chokes.

After the first week, I'm not sure I have seen much that made me think "wow, interesting play. Didn't see that coming."

Overall, he got credit because so many young coaches are doing well and KM is young. KM really didn't do anything on his own to warrant the hype he got. Many of us, including myself, were just suckers for Jerry's hype machine.

He was simply a placeholder to ride out the final year of Garrett's contract .

I think both of these could be right

That's the thing though. It wasnt just Jerry's hype machine at work. All across the NFL world, people were hyping him up.

Brother where are you coming up with this from. “Most hyped” and “everyone not affiliated with Dallas was hyped”, those those statements just aren’t true. Yes it was constantly mentioned because he was new, very young and had no experience whatsoever, but no one and I mean no one outside of this forum and outside of the organization was “hyping him”, so please.

Now with that said I am not soured on him as we did see improvement. Yes he made a few rookie mistakes but he was pretty good as the offense put lead the league in yards and that says a lot. And I agree the consistent missing on crossing routes was pathetic. Even most of the time when the receivers was able to catch them, their momentum was stop because the pass was right at them or slightly behind them.

Nope, they're trying to move him up the ladder way too fast........he's also not had a competent mentor to help him along.

To add here, yes, KM has had a fair chance considering the lack of work he has had leading up to taking in the OC position. Go from 3rd string QB to OC without any prior OC work?

Jerry all too happy to keep it "all in the family" before hiring outside. He certainly needs to go outside and clean house this offseason. It woukd be sad if JJ declares that the new HC cannot bring his own staff.

Moore will be a much better coach a few years down the road. That is not saying he was bad this year but he went up against coaches who have been doing this for a long time. To expect him to be a savior was a mistake. I am sure he learned a lot this year and will make him better moving forward.

Regardless, the new coach needs complete authority on his staff. That includes everyone currently here.

One thing that is amazing is how bare the Jason Garrett coaching tree is. 10 years ago I would have bet pretty heavily that uncovering coaching talent would have been one of his strengths. That has not happened and I am pretty surprised how poor he has been at it.

I think he showed brilliance, especially at the beginning of the year. I also think
Garrett did NOT give him free reign despite many speculations here - forget about
anything Jones or Garrett or anyone else claims...
If we let him go, he'll only go elsewhere and win the Super Bowl once he gets
out of Jerry's sphere of epic-failness and influence.
(And lest I beat this into the ground, Garrett WAS telling him whether to run or pass
into the headset because I saw it and read his lips - "RUN ZEKE" is hard to miss.--NO game)
Kellen was NOT given free reign the entire time.
