Detroit, please sign Suh long term. That will save me from seeing for the gazillionth time another Suh to the Cowboys mention.

I know, the thought of adding the best DT in football to this team is such a terrible idea.

Hopefully we don't have a Top 10 draft pick again for a long time. The only way to get superior talent is pay for it or get real lucky in the draft.

Those are the cap hits, not the salary. The first year is always the lowest because of the signing bonus.

If Suh gets a 30m signing bonus he could easily have a 1st year cap hit of under 8m. Same with JPP.

My bad, I was reading that as salary. The point would remain the same with Free and McClain, I'm not sure I would give a big signing bonus and a lot of years to either guy. Both should be on salary and incentives type deals.

I will begin by stating the obvious and making it known that in no way, shape, or form do I expect this type of offseason activity to REALISTICALLY happen. This was, more than anything just me playing around and having a little fun while at the same time gaining a better understanding of our potential salary cap situation.

That being said, I was markedly astonished at the sheer amount of strength & ability our front office will possess this off-season to.literally do whatever they want. Just look at the numbers from my highly exaggerated mock off-season above, numbers that, mind you, were attained WITHOUT Brandon Carr even taking a pay cut/getting cut.

To sum it all up, I think it's obvious that the FO won't go after Suh, JPP, and/or any other guys requiring contracts paying over 10 mil a year. It just isn't Jason Garrett's way aka The Cowboy Way anymore and I'm more than OK with that. However, while I'm fairly certain we retain all our own FA's imperative to team success, I really hope the FO isn't under-appreciating Murray and he is offered a fair enough deal relative to the other top backs, something along the lines of 6-8 mil a year for 5-6 yrs with 20-30% guaranteed perhaps?

Very glad that I decided to finally go ahead and do one of these free agency simulations after hearing so many great things about it via this board and others. It's very simple and has proven to be extremely accurate in terms of each Team's Cap & contract configurations. I suggest others out there who like this type of **** to give it a shot, definitely worth the time.

Pretty cool, and yeah it's kinda unrealistic as you said. Nice though. I don't see Justin Durant or Cole Beasley of Duane Harris listed though. Ya gotta bring back Beas at least. 3 year 6M? Whether Durant comes back depends on What happens with McClain and Carter. I tend to think Carter will be the one gone as some 3-4 team is gonna give him a raise. I'm unsure about Harris. On one hand he does quite a bit on special teams- it would take 2 or 3 guys to replace all he does, but on the other hand, I think he's reached his ceiling at WR and may just get more $$ elsewhere.

That tool doesn't let you deal with ERFAs or RFAs for some reason. Leary, Weems and Moore should be no-brainers as ERFAs.

Beasely I would tender, Dunbar is a maybe and DHarris I would try to replace with a burner for WR5/KR.

I ran the calculator and after restructuring Romo, TSmith and Witten, cutting Melton and getting a 4m pay cut from Carr I was able to sign 11 of our FAs.

Dez-8m, Murray-5m, Spencer-3m, McClain-4m, Carter-3m, Durant-1m
Beasely-1.3m, Dunbar-1.3m, Leary, Weems and Moore-600k

That leaves the team with 17-18m in cap space. Enough to sign one big FA or 2-3 mid level guys.

What has Suh done for the Lions these past 5 years? Not a whole heck of a lot. If I remember correctly, Suh didn't stop the Cowboys from victory. The OL handled him well enough. And Suh will want top buck, like $10M+/yr. So, yeah it is a terrible idea. Let Washington pay Suh $15M/yr.

So we can only sign Seahawks and Patriots, c'mon.

If you don't want to spend the money that's one thing, but Suh is a difference maker. I do not want to face him twice a year, he tossed Martin around like a rag doll.

To me Dez, Murray, and suh salaries are bit unrealistic... unless the salaries after the first year increase, by like 2-4 million a piece.

I think if Dez could be signed for 8.9 and Murray for 5.2 it would have happened by now...

8.9 mil is just the 2015 cap hit for Dez, as is the 5.2 for Murray. Fanspeak has it set up where you offer the player 3 different categories: Money per year, Years signed, and Percent of Money Guaranteed. IIRC, I started out offering Dez a measly 10 mil per year with 20% guaranteed and gradually worked my way up to 15 mil per year with 25% guaranteed, only to have "Dez" reject every single one of em. As frustrated as ever, I refused to allow this man to walk away unsigned so I upped the ante and offered him 16 mil per year over 7-8 years with 30% guaranteed and lo and behold, he accepted! Thus, with the total contract probably looking something like an 8 yr, $128 million deal with something like $38 mil guaranteed, the 8.9 mil cap hit for 2015 was derived from an assumed 2015 base salary of $1.2 mil and a prorated bonus of $7.68 mil. I know, a bit much on the math but it really isn't that complicated and makes a lotta sense imo...
