Thats what I thought. I just read an article about our free agents. unrestricted, restricted, and exclusive rights. Newmans name was not mentioned.

7 years...

But I think there's an opt out after next season that's pretty likely to happen IIRC.

I bet Newman gets done either during the offseason or during the season next year. Despite the opt out IIRC the base contract gets high enough that only a QB is likely to see a salary in that range.

They should let him play out the contract and not re-sign him. When he came out he was an unusually old player, 25 I think. At the end of the contract he will be 30.

We should draft a couple of CB this draft, one pretty high and be ready when Newman' contract expires. Let some other team over spend on a 30+ DB. Unlike many here, I don't think he is a top tier CB.

That makes absolutely zero sense to me.

The best CB we have had in years and you want to let him go???

What do you propose, a 5 year $80 million contract with $30 million up front? For a 30+ year old CB. He'll be 35 when the contract expires.

I really believe that is what Jerry is waiting for, or they would have negotiated a new contract extension by now.

The second contract of a player should be when they are 25-28 years old.

I have no clue what Mr. Jones will offer TNew. But I guarantee you he will get an offer.

I also seriously doubt that Mr. Jones is waiting until TNew hits 30 years old so he can use that as a bargaining tool against him.

We will be entering off season contrct talks soon and wiith TNew's contract coming up next off season he will likely be on the list of players we will try to extend out. If not this off season then next year.

I don't really see any rush as there is around a zero percent chance he will be allowed to enter free agency and sign with another team.

actually if he signed a 7 year deal, he will be 32 when the contract expires....if we let it run out.

you know..you are not alone...I think he is very good...and when you are on a team wherever else sucks...it makes you look extraordinary....but I have been waiting for years for him to have a dominating SEASON....and we have not seen it. But the problem is, we are so terrible in the secondary we HAVE to keep him. But he is not nearly the God many on this board make him out to be

I believe he already met the incentives that voids that 7th year

guys, jerry jones wont let Newman walk, his contract does expire after this year, he met incentives that voided final year of his contract

now i do believe jerry jones should do this, let newman play this year, if he lights it up in preseason or during the regular season, then yes, resign him, but first lets see how that foot injury is going to be.

we already have seen when they upted terrry glenns contract, and most likely he is done permantely and have to retire, we will have to eat his contract. Now, I am not trying to say i dont appreciate terry glenn, i love what he has done for this team, and i was wanting him to be healthy for the playoffs, but we all saw how gimpy he was in that game, and how he kept falling down, when players get older, then they are more suspect to injury and take longer to heal or recover,

so i say, lets see what newman does in preseason, if foot is healed up or if it will be a recurring injury, then go from there
