Did the chiefs select the better player 20 picks later?

I mean honestly that’s amazing value to get a tackle like him that late. Guy easily coulda been top 5 pick if not for an injury and we draft a guy who can only play guard. He could’ve been our left or right tackle and even coulda played right guard this year if you wanted.

Simmons would probably have been my pick, but that pick certainly comes with a higher risk attached to it as well.
Exactly this. Elite teams like the Chiefs or Eagles can take these risk.

They are deep with talent and can let guys rest.

Dallas needs plug and play guys

I absolutely loved Simmons and wanted him at 12

But there is a reason an elite LT slides to 32. Im not a scout, but something wasn’t right with the medical or being ready week 1
Bobby Belt was on the Draft Show hammering that he was a character concern guy as well.

I'd also like to point out that while Simmons may be a better prospect than Booker, we're talking about weighing a true OT against a true OG, so we're not making a direct comparison between the two.

It’s amusing how many of these guys have “character” issues come draft night haha

Good ol character concern excuse

Here in Dallas, we are too good for those types, but recent sb winners like the Eagles and Chiefs draft these guys seemingly every year

Also there were/are off the field issues with him as well per several outlets

I don't think many GMs thought Simmons was an elite LT prospect nor gave him a first RD grade. I know I didn't have him in the top 3 OT for this class. I thought he had a chance to go late first, early second RD, and he did.

But I know many GM's and other "pros" had Booker as the top OG and a first RD grade on him.
I personally liked D Jackson a tad better. So I would agree they may have let the better prospect slide by 12 picks. I had Zable as the 3rd best OG and he went 6 picks before Jackson so I could be off base on my rankings.

You're one of those schmucks that would have drafted Randy Moss over Greg Ellis. How embarrassing would that have been? You would probably have been OK with getting a Gronk, Travis Kelce too huh? Luckily we weren't drafting high enough to have to even consider taking character concern guys like Jalen Carter or Laremy Tunsil.

I have to point out that the Chiefs 2024 1st round pick was recently arrested for domestic assault charges. Said charges were dropped, and it's unfair of me to make assumptions, but I've seen Tyreek Hill continuously get away with stuff like this over the years because he runs fast.

What? I have not heard anyone say that he wasn't one of the most naturally gifted LT prospects you would find. The only real issue I have heard was concerns over the injury.

I think he goes top 5 if not for the injury and that is what the analysts that I have all heard say.

If we drafted an injured, injury prone player again, this board would have burned the building down. LOL

Maybe. Maybe they picked a player better than the 4th pick in the draft. Maybe he will be worse than 6 day two guys. Doesn’t matter know. Let’s we how it plays out.

I didn't hear or see any of that. I heard that he was a decent OT prospect, but I never heard that he was one of the most naturally gifted LTs. And I didn't see that in my evals. Not the I'm some player scout or anything. I had him as a mid 2nd rd guy.

Simmons is a good left tackle prospect but between that patella injury and the fact he is not an elite tackle athlete, he was drafted correctly at the end of the first. I don’t care what Broaddus allegedly heard about his medicals. I believe the kid will start out on the PUP list. That is the last thing we would want to hear about our 1st round pick.

Question op ... Do you think the chief would make the same selection of Simmons at 12?

I haven't done scouting either just superficial reviews of what's out there. I was watching the Draft show with Bucky Brooks, Lance Zierlein & Mike Yam. They immediately started talking about how he was an elite mover for his size and the clips they were showing had him full out running as lead blocker & just tossing people out of the way. I don't watch much OSU but I remember seeing a game where some of the clips came from and remember thinking that the dude was impressive.

How good the competition was or whatever, I don't know.

Jerry wasn't on an island with this pick. Zabel and Jackson were both drafted before Simmons as well, and they both carried a pretty similar grade to Booker.
