Did The Giants Screw Up The Draft?

I recently read an article online where anonymous NFL scouts said the Giants really whiffed with picks 5 and 10. "They make you wonder if they have a plan", one scout said.

The article went on to say the Dexter Lawrence trade was bad. "You don't replace a guy like that with a rookie, especially in this draft", the scout said. Also questioned the picks of Arvell Reese and Francis Mauigoa. Said that Reese was drafted purely on projection and that "Sonny Styles had to tell him where to line up".

Based on how the first round went, the Giants could have selected both Styles and Caleb Downs. Instead they went with Reese and then let the consensus top defensive prospect in the class slide to the Cowboys.

If these criticisms of the Giants' draft turn out to be correct, it really favors Dallas.

Kinda nutty opinion. But, I guess if you dig deep enough you can find an "expert" to support just about anything.
They got 2 cornerstone players. Reese was a beast at OSU and clearly a better player than Sonny Styles on the field, though Sonny did win the post-season underwear olympics. The Miami OT was the only blue chip LT in the draft and a huge need. I was as surprised as anyone they didn't draft Caleb Downs at 10. But, I get it. Safeties are cheap and OTs are expensive and much harder to find.

The Miami tackle at 10 has a herniated disc . So I’m taking Caleb Downs and looking for a T subsequent round . Yes they blew it .

Draft grades are like rear ends: everyone’s got one and they all stink.

Did the Giants screw up the draft? I’ll let you know in 2-3 years. Anything you read today is just guesswork.

Since you didn’t site the source of the article perhaps it was made up. In fact, it is so illogical and without reason I can see why. Ó one wants to claim ownership of those words.

The two guys they took will be fine and if you look at all the mock drafts, both were in the top 10 on many of them….so I guess there are a lot of dumb football people running around out there.

I mean somebody at CBS Sports gave the Cowboys a "D".

I just posted this to show how varied opinions can be about any team's draft class. Which is kind of crazy considering not one of these players has even suited up for a game yet.

Reese was a backup originally to Styles I believe - then moved to Edge to get him on the field. I just don't see that as a need for the Giants as they've spent plenty of past draft capital on the edge. He doesn't have much bend and is pretty light...so maybe they aren't looking at him as an edge. If they are planning on putting him as an off-ball LB, then he'll be fine but not worthy of a top 5 pick.

The OT's back would scare me...that's never a good thing to start your NFL career with. Maybe it ends up being a nothing burger, because he was pretty good in college....we'll see.

The Giants biggest problem is the QB. I don't think he's the answer and you'll end up seeing that this season. Sure, he'll make some flashy plays, but also plenty of boneheaded ones coming...along w/ the injury potential with how he tries to play.

Skateboo might not last long either .

Letting the Cowboys get Downs was a big mistake.

Not sure about the draft but I am
sure they have a grade A moron in Abdul Carter.
He's out of the league in 5 years . Hes created a mountain out if nothing. And he wanted LTs jersey number lol

Come on. The Giants hired a top 5 coach and drafted a OL stud to protect a young QB and one of the best athletes in the draft. Just stop.

Wash it then.

I'm happy with the Giants draft.

My thoughts are they were shocked when Reese was still there at 5 and took him over whatever plan they had initially. The Reese pick at 5 wasnt shocking for the Giants, it was taking OL at 10, I think they could have trade down slightly (With Dallas) and still get who they wanted. I thought it was fairly obvious Dallas wanted Downs and if the Giants weren't taking him it was odd to not make that trade.

Contrary to the author, I think it was smart to trade Lawrence and secure a 1.
