Did We Generate Pressure Against Carolina?

For those who didn't think we brought sufficient pressure on Sunday.

----

1st drive
3rd and 9 - Blitz 6, 2 of which come in stacked and slightly delayed (very creative). Forces Delhomme to throw it away.

2nd Drive
2nd and 10 - Blitz 6. Spears has a clear shot at Delhomme. Throws it early and Smith is in no position to catch the ball.
3rd and 10 - Blitz 7. Delhomme forced to get rid of the ball before he finishes drop. Throws off his back foot and nearly intercepted by Newman

3rd Drive - On this drive it was obvious they were adjusting their offense because of the pressure we were getting. They began throwing a lot of quick short routes.
1st and 10. Blitz 6. Delhomme forced to pass early and overshoots Johnson but Henry got called for interference.

4th Drive - End around.

5th Drive
3rd and 1 - Ellis getting pressure. Delhomme manages to dump off to RB before Ellis gets a sack.
1st and 10. Sack - Ellis.

----

That's 6 of 14 plays with pressure causing a bad (or almost bad) play. Of the 8 completed passes by Delhomme, 7 were short, quick routes where pressure is irrelevant.

And that's just the first half. In the 2nd half there were 2 sacks, a forced fumble, and an INT caused by pressure. Carolina didn't score once in the 2nd half. Delhomme had minimal yards in the 2nd half despite throwing 17 times. Nough said.

The D came so close to wrapping up the QB and in other games too, but somehow the QB eluded more sacks.
The run defense is among the best. It's just that aside from several sacks, it was rare to see the QB himself getting direct pressure.
But a good stand overall by the D. Proud of them.

Consistency, here lies the problem. There are still too many instances where the opposing QB is unmolested (lack of a better word) :D ......not pressured at all and he has all day to find an open receiver. The CBs can only cover for so long thus, We need constant pressure coming from someone on every passing down.

and because the pressure was effective in spurts, that's an argument for why Parcells should, and hopefully will, turn Zimmer and the defense loose so they can attack with more freedom and frequency. (that's assuming it is Parcells holding him back).
