The bears picked after us..... so no way in hell were we drafting a WR. No way were we drafting a QB. Am I the only one thinking that it was obvious the bears would take fields, and the WR the Iggles took would have been sitting there at 12? Why would they trade up and give us their 3rd rd pick for a player that was gonna be there for them anyways?

Giants could have been targeting Smith

The flaw is assuming the Giants would have traded with the Bears if Smith was on the board.

I think when Philly took Smith, the Giants then entertained the move down. Philly knew the Giants wanted Smith so they had to make the trade.

Eagles snaked the Giants
Once Philly took Smith, then NY traded down

now we did get the better end of that trade, value-wise
Dropping 2 spots and getting a late 3rd is pretty good
Got the same player we would've taken at 10, plus got the 84th pick for “free”

The Bears were not the next pick until after we traded. It was the Giants and they were absolutely targeting Smith. Once the Eagle took him they traded back.
Exactly. Of course it worked out perfectly for us. Smith was going to be picked by Philly or NY. Why would we care which one? We were not taking him or a QB, so we got a free 3rd round pick and still the player we wanted.

It was only one of the two third round picks for the Eagles and Dallas got the later one from them. Since the Giants hadn't traded spot 11 at the time and needed a WR too, the Eagles didn't want a repeat of last year when we got the WR they wanted right before them.

Win-win!

Did we rob the Eagles.
Let’s see what player is taken or if we use that in a trade and what we get or give up. Then we can evaluate the trade better.
But I have no issue with the trade and who they selected compared to what we can make of it.

We won the trade, which is extremely rare.

Extremely likely we got the player we would have taken at 10 at 12 and got a 3rd rounder for it. My initial reaction of why help Philadelphia get their guy is negated because the Giants were likely going to take Smith.

Also Jerry said in the PC. They had been taking to the Eagles about this trade the past few days. I guess it depended on what players were there for us as well as them. So if no other trades were on the table, it would happen.

We just helped them out and took their 3rd round pick. They got what they wanted and we got an extra pick and unfortunately still got what the front office wanted.

Sorry but I'm not a Parsons fan and am a big supporter of the 'Culture needs to change' argument and don't think this guy helps that. Hope I'm wrong

Yes, either way one team was going to get the WR, it did not matter which team. So get a 3rd in the process, good move.

Thing is neither the Giants nor Eagles have a QB to be feared. So will a top WR help the team all that much.

Are you really asking if a #1 WR will help a QB????

Smith was going to an NFC east rival regardless. One of the teams was offering a 3rd rounder to take him, may as well take it. We'll have to play him twice in the Eagles instead of the Giants, but a top 100 pick is nice
