Hmm, perhaps we can start to see why Ratliff didn't trust our medical staff.

Were there cap-implications for pupping a player before cutting him? Were we maybe able to pass a calendar deadline this year for splitting his remaining contract over this year and next by keeping Rat another 8 weeks or whatever? Or take a larger cap hit this year by carrying him longer to minimize the hit that would be left 8 weeks later? The fact that the public reports were so wrong makes it almost seem like this was a dodge from the get-go.

Keeping Ratliff on PUP caused his 2013 base salary to NOT be guaranteed. They paid him each week he was on the PUP, but will not pay his remaining salary now that he has been released.
