GAC ( Galloway and Company ESPN Radio show for those not familiar) was saying, I think Ian Fitzsimmons specifically that Cowboys are fearing worst with McBriar. Apparently he has some Nerve issue in the leg, called Dead Leg Syndrome, often caused by Back (Disk) issue or something like that.

Anyway, they don't know if it can be resolved soon or long term ( i.e. not just this season but career ending type even). Either way looks like McBriar might be out few weeks at least. Apparently this developed after St. Lious game was noticed in practices, hence reported injury in practice.

That blows big time, if that thing turns to be long term this season and beyond, and if Ian's reporting is true.. He was simly the Best punter cowboys have had in a long long time.

Yeah when I heard it had to do with a nerve in his leg, I knew it didn't sound too good. Luckily we have Chris Jones though, he was pretty impressive in the preseason

It did by the way he was putting it, i.e. that in some cases, people can't even walk normal again. Thats scary stuff. I really hope that turns out to be false alarm, forget football, even if doesn't play for Cowboys, if he healthy, that should be good.

On top of it ESPN reported on MNF that Lee might be out of season, while local media is saying he probably is going to play next game. I think I will take the local media word over ESPN ( Mort I think).

Maybe a bigger problem could be the placeholder for field goals. Looks like it's back to Romo again? I hope that doesn't mess up Dan Bailey. And what if Romo gets hurt...who's the 3rd string holder? Maybe McGee but he's not even active usually

He was definitely wearing a brace called an AFO (ankle foot orthosis) that is commonly used in people who have a "foot drop".

I don't quite get the speculation that is a herniated disc that is causing it. Usually if you have a herniated disc causing a foot drop you have severe low back pain and you would not be able to punt a football so I doubt that is the cause of his issue.

My guess is he has had a nerve impingment of some kind causing a common peroneal neuropathy - of course this is complete speculation on my behalf. Such a neuropathy is most commonly caused by trauma along the nerve tract or alternatively by compression of the nerve from resting in a position that puts traction on it (this is most commonly seen in people who have lost consciousness for an extended period of time in an awkward position).

I had it a few years ago. Came about because I was crossing my legs too long while I was sitting. Took a few weeks for it to go away completely.

That is actually a possible cause of it - chronic leg crossing. Usually it comes on more slowly though as this is a form of chronic neuropathy.

Again, I have no specific medical knowledge regarding McBriar's situation. I just don't think it is likely to be a herniated disc.

The other thing I'll say is McBriar doesn't have a very good orthotist. His brace was fitting very poorly last night when he tried to punt.

We're probably best off putting him on the IR and bringing in another punter for the rest of the season. Hopefully his nerve will heal or alternatively he could be a candidate for a nerve graft (if his nerve is "pinched" close to the knee) if it does not heal.
