Difference between Gallup vs TWill

T-Will was mediocre but he made some big-time plays in his time with Dallas. Game-winning TD in the playoffs vs Detroit, caught Romo’s final NFL pass/TD, ridiculous sideline catch in Seattle which led to the winning points.

Hopefully Gallup puts together some huge plays like that in his Cowboys career.

What do you think it is going to be the big difference between Michael Gallup vs the departed Terrance Williams ?

i noticed TWill still hasn't been picked up by another NFL team, after Cowboys declines his option

TWill was a body catcher which limited his catch radius. Gallup uses his full length/vj to snatch the ball.
TWill is very poor out of his breaks due to poor change of direction; additionally, he was not precise in repeating routes and was only successful with a few routes. Gallup is superior in all of that.
TWill was mentally soft disappearing for stretches of games. Gallup steadily gets better game after game.

Gallup was rated one of the best route runners in his draft class. Williams had to learn route trees once he got here.

Yep, those were the reports. Had the best footwork of anyone in that class.

The WR coach has been coaching young players to "run the route like Gallup runs it". That kinda awesome for a 2nd year WR.

Consistency

Williams could get 160 yards one game and not have 160 yards combined the next 8 games

He could come up big like he did in the playoff game against the Lions then you don’t hear his name again

Gallup looks to be a consistent receiver kinda like a 6 catch 60 yard type guy every week

Gallup went 60 or more 3 times including playoffs and hit 6 catches or more once.

Facts matter.

Terrence got a bad rep here towards the end because he was a chest catcher but he was a legit receiving threat early in his career. I have my theories to what happened but ultimately he was just not capable of playing consistent. But when he was good he was on int.

TWill could run deep comebacks, slants, drags, posts, crossing routes, and 9 routes, but Dallas just wanted short comebacks, curls, digs and quick outs. So let's just say TWill's strengths were not incorporated into Dallas' offense. Gallup can run what Dallas wants. So the percieved difference between TWill and Gallup is...coaches usage.

Much higher ceiling. As much as I’d like to flame him, TW performed pretty well most of his time here, who can forget the toe drag catch in Seattle? That said, he was never more than a decent #2.
Gallup MAY have the potential to become a #1. Even better, we have Coop so Gallup can just work on being a monstrous #2, which I suspect he is going to be this year. I expect doubles coming for Coop and Gallup to just abuse single coverage, esp the secondaries with a big drop off from #1CB to #2 CB

TW was a higher draft pick, had a better rookie season and backed it up in his second year with an 8 TD season and a further 3 TD's in the postseason. That's nothing to sneeze at and Gallup would be doing really well to replicate TW's 2014 season.

But I suspect TW lost motivation and became disillusioned with Dez's treatment. I actually think TW was a pretty good player when he was motivated and had his head in the game. He definitely made some bonehead decisions which I don't think Gallup would make. I feel like while Gallup has better hands and significantly better on the back shoulder fade, TW had his strengths too, he was good against zone coverage and finding space one a play had broken down.

TW gave you a consistent amount of catches and touchdowns, about 45 catches, 700 yards and 4 touchdowns. That's not bad, we hope Gallup can do better, but with Cooper, Witten and Zeke catching passes, I suspect there's not going to be that many throws coming his way.
Zeke averaged 26.88 rushes/pass targets last year, with the team having an average of about 65 plays a game, that means it was Zeke touching the ball 40% of the time. Cooper had an average of about 8 targets a game, this year it will likely be more, so if he gets 10 per game, that means just he and Zeke will get 55% of the touches, leaving only about 29 a game for everybody else, like Witten, Jarwin, Cobb, Austin and of course Dak with some rushes, too.

Wouldn't be surprised if Gallup ended up with about the same stats as TW....

Twill tried to catch the ball with body.
Gallup catches the ball with his hands.
Though sometimes body catches are necessary, to shield the ball from the defender. TW just did them too many times when it wasn't necessary...

T Williams had a 6 year career. Not bad.
He had potential early on, had some big games for the Cowboys as well.
Had some flaws, but overall was a decent player for the Boys.

He could of very well called it a career but not officially retired or the NFL may just see him as a player that has declined quite a bit to the point where they rather go after younger cheaper talent.

Gallup seems to be a better fit for the scheme Dallas wants to run now.
