So I have a new neighbor behind my house. 3:30 am last night and my house was still shaking from the music. I was exhausted. Had a surgery and cancer treatment on Thursday.

My wife begged me not to go, but the dogs were freaking out and we all needed some rest. I went over and shut it down. Right or wrong?

Do I become the good neighbor and take them a bottle of wine today and explain the unwritten rules of the neighborhood?

I am friends with 3 sheriff's in my neighborhood, but I knew they had illegal substances going on and didn't want to involve law enforcement.

Fyi... this is a very nice gated community.
Sorry, the remote on the sound system was locked. We only like really good red wine. Where do those sheriffs live?

Let it slide the first time but confront them if it happens again in a firm yet cordial manner

A little common sense goes a long way. You have to k ow that playing loud music at 3AM is offensive to your neighbors.

Are they young (millennial age)? Young people these days don't take the time to think on how their actions effect others. Or they don't care.

With how crazy things have gotten you must get along with your neighbors. You definitely should go talk to them and explain to them in a calm manner. I've had to do that in the past and now we have friendly chats when outside and get along just fine. I always make it a point to wave if I see them at a distance.

I personally don't care if my neighbors like me, as long as they're quiet in their hate.

I live in a new housing development. ALL the neighbors are new to each other. But I haven't met one that was a problem yet. Everyone's been nice. Parties have ended at reasonable hours. But where I lived previously? People were shooting off fireworks (Like Saturn Missile Batteries) at 3 AM.

Some people just don't care after they've had some substances in them.

Yep, if their hate consists of snubbing me and ignoring me, that's fine. But every once in a while I run into someone who has to show their hate by harassing the person in one way or another.

By harrassing someone, do you mean going to someone's property uninvited and telling them what to do or how to enjoy themselves in their free time, calling authorities, etc?

If only there was a book that taught how to love/treat thy neighbor

That used to be practiced by most and was the foundation of the country

a. No wine!
b. No explanation as to why you felt it necessary to shut the love shack down (or they'll think it will be ok in a couple of months)
c. No need to warn them about the 3 sheriffs.
d. Call these sheriffs and let them handle this. They don't need to know which neighbor enlightened them.
e. Did I say no wine? No wine!
f-z. Take care of yourself and get well soon!

Yes, but that is a two-way street. Loving thy neighbor also includes being considerate of your noise pollution very late at night.

It's one thing if you're in a house on a property with a lot of land. It's different if it's a subdivision.

I agree on the music not being on late or low. You can't have large sounds systems or djs that late, but not having music is not right. And I disagree about not being able to enjoy backyards until 3 or 4. I have done it in all types of neighborhoods, from small gatherings to house parties. It was Saturday night, and they had recently moved in

I don't do it anymore, and I keep the sabbath now, so I wouldn't be going anyways, but I spent a large part of my life in subdivisions, apartments, gated, non gated, ranches, country homes partying all nights of the week. I don't get it. It is nothing new

Gated Community have rules and a board. Call them and get them involved. Heck these people go nuts over flags I'm sure they would hound them over the music.

Till 3:30am is horse****. One thing to have guests over late chatting with a few drunks talking loud and some music on a low volume, but another to be blasting music past 10-11pm is crap. Weekday or weekend.

You're better than me, at 3:30 am the cops are being called if the walls are vibrating in my house.

During summer 2020 when the bars were all shut down a neighbor down the road a bit became the place to party for the bar crowd he associated with. Almost every night the party raged on, complete with fireworks 3 or 4 times a week as late 12 or 1 am.

Eventually I started to wake up very early in the morning to someone leaning on their car horn for an extended time. Apparently a closer neighbor to this clown had decided to engage in a little payback and they would stop in front of the guys house and hit that horn for a full five plus minutes every morning.

This fireworks at night and horn blowing in the morning went on for a week. I'm the most patient and understanding person you'll ever meet and even I was about to illustrate the reason why one should, "beware the fury of a patient man", but it stopped.

I did find out later that pretty much everyone in earshot of this richard called the cops, except for me. I was going to have a face to face before resorting to the last resort of calling the law.

I don’t understand noisy neighbours…I really don’t. They are just inconsiderate and don’t deserve politeness in return…
I’m fortunate that my neighbours are quite quiet…
