really how valuable he is right now. If I were JJ and BP I would do exactly what they are doing too. I just watched about 3 games from last year and not noticed it wasn't just his pressure on the QBs that is valuable. He sniffed out several plays from the DE spot when Rbs were trying to flair out of the backfield on Qb reads. Plus the only guys that we have that can match his talent from an agile standpoint on the DL are Hatcher and Carpenter in the nickle. We can't rely on 2 rookies to know the nuances of the game this year. I don't mind his whining because its a business, but his knowledge of the game can't be matched by anyone from a DE point of view. He's like Dat from a down linemans position. Keep him until someone else develops, period!!!

Understand that rationale about just play, but this is their business. JJ is in the business to make money as is Ellis. He has a short window of opportunity to make as much as possible. When you can't control your destiny to make that much it can become frustrating. JJ has the power to cut him at anytime of his career with hesitation and Ellis can't veto that. Ellis has millions but more millions won't hurt after retirement. I see Ellis' point, but he would just rot unless he became a distraction which I don't think will happen.

I don't disagree at all with your post. Has he lived up to the #8 pick? NO. Is he darn near irriplaceable at this point of the 2006 year? Probably. Who the heck we gonna get to get those 8 sacks? Man i really don't know. I don't want him around *****in and complaining, but who's gonna get that pressure? I have said get rid of Greg, yet i realize Parcells has said he's one of 2 guys that can get after the passer. If, IF, we trade him, we HAVE TO get a pass rusher back for him. It's the end of July and the reg, season is gonna start in 6 weeks. I really don't want this guy messin things up, but i have to question whether we can get back equal value for Greg as far as the rush goes. Ashley Lelie? Jerry Porter? That doesn't help the rush. As i've said, i don't want a malcontent around, but i'm concerned who, BESIDES WARE, is gonna get 8-10 sacks.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that I'm sure someone may develop at getting to the Qb, but who do we have that can detect plays within our division at the DE spot ala Dat. Like when Dat called out the play vs Philly last year. Thats what I saw. Not saying its not important to get to the Qb, but its just as important to sniff out screens and such plays sometimes. Thats what we don't have in HAtcher, Carp or Ratliff. That experience can't be replaced. Now I don't want Ellis to become a distraction, but I really don't think he'll becomr a malcontent once the season starts. Its really not him. I liked the idea of getting Peek, but I really don't know how smart he is either. So keep him until further notice.

He can cry all he wants to right now. Its his last real chance to voice his displeasure before camp starts. Once you put the pads on you become a football player. If BP is the genius we all know he is, he'll put Ellis in position to have success. When it comes down to it, Ellis is a football player. Its all he has ever known or done. Once he realizes that he can do this, he'll buy into it. In a few short weeks he'll become comsumed to help the team and be accountable to his teamates.
I really see this being the end result.

I would agree that once we hit the field tomorrow I don't want to hear him complain. I fully expect him to go out there put in the work and play hard. If he can do that I have no issue with him.

With the pressure that Ware is going to generate, Ellis could crack 10 sacks for the first time in his career. All he is doing by complaining is hurting himself when/if he goes on the free agent market.
