Why are the Pats so poised and sound? Why do they seldom make game-changing mistakes?

Because Bill Belichick holds them accountable. The players tow the company line because if they don’t, the coach will dispose of them.

Dallas is the opposite. There is no accountability whatsoever. Year after year, game after game, it’s always the same - debilitating mistakes and self-inflicted penalties, slow starts, mental errors, etc etc etc.

X’s and O’s are very important, no denying that. Garrett is terrible at a lot of that. But nobody is respectfully fearful of Garrett as a football coach, either. No fan, no player, nobody in the front office. Even if he does try to be the “stern leader” behind closed doors, the players know it’s a facade.

The fact we never can seem to get out of our own way is a direct product of the coaches and front office tolerating such mistakes and mental lapses.

In New England, they’d be gone. In Dallas, they’re politely asked to “execute” better. Nobody is uncomfortable in Dallas. A disciplinarian coach with true authority can change that.

I completely agree. I always go back to the story about when Jimmy got hired. Irvin made him a list of everyone that was half-a@@ing it and they were gone.

To be fair to JG, I am pretty sure before benches someone or would dare cut someone, he needs to run it by the committee, headed by JJ himself - not a great way to run a team.

Yep, when I heard Gronk and Holley talking about accountability this week the first thing I thought about was how there has been next to none in Dallas since Jimmy left.

As someone who manages people, I can tell you one of the biggest mistakes a lot team leaders, etc make is they don't set clear expectations, then hold people to those standards to achieve their goals. You see it over and over. People want to be successful and need to be held accountable.

Nobody is really in charge. Jerry likes it that way. Sure he will scapegoat the special teams coach, but why is he even here? He's just a peon. A real head coach would hold Jerry accountable; he doesn't want to have to walk around on eggshells like he did when Parcells was here.

Their players are serious and want to win. The same cannot he said about our players. They truly see all of this as a “game”. The differences in views between our players and players on teams like GB, NE, SF, Baltimore, etc are vastly different.

There is no reason for players in Dallas to BE accountable. What's the threat of not playing for the Cowboys anymore? If you get kicked off the Pats your lose what is likely your best shot at a ring.

It’s the country club environment here in Dallas where everyone wants to be “ buddy buddy” between players and FO. In NE, it’s “do your job.” Facilities may not be 5 stars and not a country club atmosphere but the end goal is to win championships. And it works.
