My dish network just cut off my "distant Network channels"---ie New York and Chicago. Replaced them with local channels I get off my house antenna.
Something about some "judical action" recently cut them off

House bill 4067 pending to get them back

what a bunch of crabola.........

anyone know the whole story?

Basically, distant locals were intended for people who lived in communities that did not have locals. For example, you live in Maine and have no local ABC affiliate, you could then have the option of getting one from say, NYC.

People who had local major network affiliates were able to get distants from other places. For instance, you live in Phoenix but are getting an Atlanta based ABC channel. The major networks (ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, etc.,) felt that was a violation of copyright and sued both DirecTV and DISH.

Fortunately for DirecTV customers, Rupert Murdoch's checkbook was able to keep his customers happy by settling with each network out of court, while DISH customers suffer.

But you can look into some things like TVU and watch those channels over the internet.

Either that or look to our friendly Canadians for a FTA receiver. :)
