Disney would acquire Fox’s movie and TV studio, networks including FX and National Geographic, and international assets including Star India’s TV channels and a 39 percent stake in European satellite provider Sky Plc. Disney would also get Fox’s stake in U.S. streaming-video provider Hulu, doubling its ownership to 60 percent.

21st Century Fox would keep Fox News, the Fox broadcast network and Fox Sports 1. The company would remain independent at least initially, though it could consider a merger later with the Murdochs’ publishing company, News Corp., the person said. Fox Chief Executive Officer James Murdoch is likely to be offered a senior position at Disney after the transaction closes, the person said. That would put him in the running as a candidate to eventually succeed Disney CEO Bob Iger.

The nerd in me, just wants to know if that would include the Xmen and Fantastic Four franchises. If so, awesome!

I would be surprised if Disney dumps ESPN. I think they would want the subscribers (though dropping) and continue to revamp the network.

Disney wants to sell off ESPN
No they don't, lol.

They want to add it to Hulu but have all these exclusive rights deals with cable. .

The cornerstone of this deal for Disney is the Hulu majority stake they'd have and the Comic franchises which is the hottest thing selling in movies.

Only issue for fans is would they still run gritty comics like Deadpool in the cleansed Disney empire.

ESPN is killing their movie division ...... they want it gone...... it is eating all their profits

ESPN, meanwhile, continues to weigh on Disney stock: Shares have dropped 7.1% this year, compared with a 10.1% gain by the benchmark S&P 500 index.

They do not want it gone because it has the most powerful content they own, NCAA and NFL.
They want it on Hulu so they stop losing money.

They'd then control content and distribution of movie franchises and sports.
Hulu would go up to like 25 a month and be must have for virtually every person: man, woman or child.

This is a 5 year plan for as cable dies.

That is the new plan, but ESPN is a huge drag and they just cut 100s of employees after cutting 100s last year

21st Century Fox would keep Fox News, the Fox broadcast network and Fox Sports 1.
So they wouldn't be getting the Sports or News channels............just the Studios, FX and NatGeo and Hulu

Disney bought the Marvel theme issues from Universal Studios but allows them to use it for the next 20 years. My grandson is a huge Universal Fan and his dream job is to be on the Creative Design team for their Haunted Houses in October. He hates all things Disney and is bummed they will eventurally take his Marvel people of the Hulk, Spiderman and Captain America.

Disney stock is up this year. It is down quite a bit from their summer high, but overall up for the year

Where have you read this? Every single thing I have ever read on the matter states Universal has those rights in perpetuity and I haven't seen any news changing it. (Disney and Universal did make a side deal for Guardians of the Galaxy but that did nothing to change the original deal involving Hulk, Spider-Man, etc)

Yes it will. We can now expect to see those in the MCU. Quite honestly, my favorite part of this acquisition is bringing Dr. Doom into the MCU. It would be nice to see him in a movie and done right.

It also brings all of Star Wars under Disney's roof which was probably a thorn in their side.

Yea, to be honest, Dr. Doom is far more worth it. He easily could/should be the villain of the next phase

I saw a news report that stated that they only gained 30% control of Hulu. I don't know if that's accurate or not and I don't know if that represents a majority but if it doesn't, then they failed on the Hulu piece. IDK

They would never be allowed to buy the Fox TV network because they already own ABC.

I think they already owned 30% so this would give them 60%

Hey Nightman, I saw that too but only after the original post. They accomplished what they wanted so see how it works out for them.

A lot of people are betting on streaming dominating over cable and satellite but I don't see it.... I see a big swing to streaming but not a complete take-over

Most of America is rural is doesn't get the free over the air HDTV and they still have to get their internet access thru the cable company and not the phone companies

Either way Disney is positioned very well..... they said they did 92% of the Domestic Box Office this weekend as a combined studio(BV and 21 Fox)
