They don't have a "gay day" and it isn't Disney supported or sponsered. It's something that the gay community has put together and a lot of them show up every year on the first saturday in June.

Actually I thought they did sponsor it. Didn't they do something with the LGBT community with a float or something in a parade that promoted the day? I might be wrong but I thought they had.

Disney does not sanction Gay Days (and officially tells employees to treat it as any other summer day)

It's an event put together by the national LGBT group, and they do them in other places as well.

Great. Thanks for clearing that up.

People get upset, but Disney really can't do anything. The onus is on the people who go to act like adults and not use it as an opporunity to "get back" at straight people.

My earlier post on that is a great example of that. Our friends were so appalled by the display there they literally left the park after cast members told them they didn't like it themselves but there was nothing they could do about the overt display. And you are right, it is done on purpose.

Imagine a bunch of people getting together at a theme park to flaunt their straightness and calling it strait day?

or for straight people to man up and take their children to Disneyworld anyway and show them that homosexuals are not freaks who need to be avoided?

As an adult, I agree with you, but for kids it's kind of the reverse.

EPCOT is a lot of walking, and, most of the rides in the front are really boring (Energy, The Land, Spaceship Earth) or not really great for little ones (Mission Space, some might put Test Track and Soaring in this category as well). On the plus side for kids, there are a lot of characters in Epcot, including some that are difficult to find or only found in Epcot (Mulan in China, Belle and The Beast in France, Marie from Aristocrats in France, Mary Poppins in England). There is some *really* good food in Epcot, and you can get decent wine in France and good draft beer in England.

Animal Kingdom is not my favorite, but I don't like zoos either. My kid and all 7 of her cousins love it, mostly because of the Safari ride, the Lion King and Nemo shows, and the character greeting spot in Camp Minnie Mickey. My favorite is the Nemo show because that's when I get to go single rider on Expedition Everest. The food in AK kinda sucks. Tusker House isn't bad for a buffet, but Yak and Yeti is very average, IMO.

The Norwegian pavillion has the ride that is like Pirates of the Caribbean. My son loved it when the troll said "you will go backwards over da falls"

The problem is that homosexuals acting like freaks is the norm at these gay days. I wouldnt want to take my kid to a park full of heterosexuals making out and groping each other either, and by all accounts that is exactly what goes on.

Here's an article by an openly gay man speaking out against what goes on and how offended he, as a gay man, feels seeing that stuff in public.

http://www.wdwinfo.com/disney-gay-days.htm

I don't care about gay couples walking around and having fun, holding hands, etc. I just don't want to watch people make out, grab arse and party with their shirts off. The fact that they are doing it just to make a scene and state an obnoxious point makes the behavior even worse. They need to grow up and act like adults in public, I'm tired of people excusing the actions of a vocal minority amongst homosexuals who insist on flaunting their sexuality just as I would have a problem with heterosexuals doing the same.

"man up" huh? Interesting choice of words. I don't want my kids seeing anyone slobbering all over each other let alone something as unnatural as this. And yes, I said unnatural.

It's natural for them. Who would ever choose to be gay, why choose to be discrminated against and treated with scorn by the majority of the population?

Guys let's not trip this thread up with unnecessary discourse... This was a good thread with tips about Disney World, let's try to keep it that way.

The gayday tip was a good one. I think that's all that should be said about it.

My family and I went at the end of April for a week and had a great time! We drove from Cleveland, OH and stopped at Atlanta to visit my wife's cousin on the way.

We stayed at the Port Orleans-Riverside and thought it was a great resort and it felt like we were in New Orleans. We stayed for 3 nights and went to all 4 parks and we didn't get the hopper.

The dining plan we thought would be a good idea so we ended up going with it and loved it. My daughters are 4 and 1 and my 4 year old loved the princess dining at Epcot.

I personally liked Hollywood Studios the best for the Star Wars ride, Toy Story Mania, and the Fantasmic show at the end of the night.

I wish we would have went to Epcot one of the first days because we went on day 3 and we were all exhausted by then from driving 16-17 hours. My wife and I were really surprised how well behaved our girls were because being in a car for that long and then being out in the sun and 90 degree weather for 10 hours a day can really get to you.

Two weeks at Disney? Good Lord give me a bullet. I live 30 minutes from there and after the last one day trip I swore I would never go back. My daughter in law used to be a guide there and people would pay her to get them to all the rides. She knew the short cuts, the perfect times to be at a place, when to put your name for the fast pass, and probably a 100 other things that made the park experience better.

Not sure how old your kids are but if they are into rides Universal is a much better park and definetely worth a one day excursion from the Disney craziness. My grandson is 11 and has annual passes to Universal, Busch Gardens, Aquatica and Islands of Adventure. He and we have no interest in Disney.

This is information for when you don't go to Disney. The Grand Floridian has an awesome pool. I would spend more time there than the theme parks. It is not quite as good as the Grand Cypress Pool where I am going next week but still pretty good.

Good places to eat around Lake Buena Vista. Landrys is our favorite place to eat there but mostly because it reminds me of home in Louisiana. Very touristy around Lake Buena Vista.

On your Saturday night stay, take a little trip down to Old Town in Kissimmee. It is about 15-20 minutes west of where you will be staying. Rides for the kids, Fun-Spot (awesome race car tracts) is next door, people with their vintage cars, shops, arcade for the kids, nice change of pace.

The ladies will probably have to go to the mall at some point. The Mall of Millenia is within 20 and has all the main chains such as Norstroms, Macys, Sax and restaurants there are Cheesecake Factory, Johnny Rockets-

There is a huge outlet mall in Lake Buena Vista right off of Interstate 4-It is really not that bad for guys and can actually can get some pretty good prices.

International Drive is about 10 to 15 minutes east and there are lots of alternatives to Disney for the kids. The kids love Ripleys believe it or not,
and there is a Dave and Busters Restaurant there the kids enjoy.

Perfect time of year to come tho. It won't be quite as bad. Even tho one year I took the kids to Disney on Christmas morning and was told later it was their busiest day of the year. Enjoy Florida. I would not want to live anywhere else. Just wish Louisiana food was here.
