Ditch the quick out to Roy

At least until he and Romo get on the same page with that pass play.

We've seen it ran a couple of times, where Romo rolls to Williams side and throws the pass to where Williams is supposed to come back to on the sideline.

Two problems with the play are 1) Williams doesn't run the route like Romo seems to expect him to (demonstrated by Romo talking it over with Williams both times they've tried to connect on it), which allows the defender to break on the ball and almost get the interception; and 2) Romo throws the ball low and away, which would be great if Williams was in position to shield the defender but could be disastrous because he's not. If we're going to continue to use it, then Romo, at least for now, needs to fire the pass high and outside and let Williams use his height and good hands to make the play.

Once these two get in sync the quick out could be an effective weapon, but right now it is a dangerous throw for the Cowboys ... unless it is intended for someone else, like Miles Austin, who is more on the same page as Romo on that throw.

I'll be glad when Romo gets used to throwing high to the likes of Roy and Martellus. That will be a strength if it ever comes to pass.

Exactly! Utilize their superior talents fighting for balls in the air. Get them isolated 1 on 1 in space with some jump balls. Getting those quick outs are nice too so that there is a change up for these 2.

Exacly, as Bennett pointed out to Romo after the botched fade for a touchdown on Bucs game . He needs to throw high with some loop time to let these guys outjump and get the ball. The low one may work for Terry glenn but not ideal for Roy and Martellus.

Romo needs to work on the slant pass more than the out...

The out is important to run to set up double moves.

You have to run things to set up other plays.

And by the way, I am LAUGHING MY *** OFF at you bozos who are saying that Romo needs to work on his passing. They guy is a TREMENDOUS passer. His completion percentage and all statistical categories place him like in top 3 of ALL-TIME.

But you guys are whining that he needs to work on something.

Sure, everyone should work to get better. But the guy does not NEED to work on anything. If he never gets better, he's still incredible.

Thats a good observation and I agree. If he can throw that pass consistently like he threw the shoulder fade to Austin, Williams and Bennett should have a field day with that. But inside and low is just an invitation to jump the route and pick the pass.

I don't think anyone is whining, just pointing out something that will make him even more productive and avoid costly turnovers.

he needs to work on throwing fades in the endzone cause #1 he sucks at it right now and #2 we have 2 guys in Bennett and Roy who are perfgect for those routes. Romo is a tremendous passer but he does need to improve on things still.

There comes a point where you stop worrying about a player.

There are 53 players to be critical of on this roster, but there comes a point you stop worrying about a particular player. You have total confidence that they are doing their job great and will continue to do so.

You don't worry about Witten. You don't worry about Ware. You don't worry about Ratliff.

And you don't worry about Romo. He is going to do what he needs to do to get better and be productive. He's proven that. At this point, being critical of Romo's passing is like trying to find a scratch on a Ferrari. Why do it?

Man, if you can hit that quick out and have a DB be over aggressive and miss, you can have a little play turn into a big play in a hurry...don't ditch that route.

I agree completely, so well said.

Furthermore, Romo is gonna throw a pick or two this season whether it's the next game or somewhere down the road--and it's important for everyone not to freak when it happens... it's part of the game.

Long story short, T.O. is a memory now, and Williams, Crayton, and Austin have already proven that they combined are a lot more than he was alone.

Still cant fathom how you have legit 6'6 TE on a 5'10 corner, in the red zone iso'd and you dont throw the ball up. Any high school QB could lay it up there.

Give him a chance Tony.

I was listening to the Marty B show on The Ticket yesterday and he said it was just a miscommunication. Romo threw a back shoulder to him and he was expecting a jump ball. He said if they were on the same page, the back shoulder would have been fine.

They'll get it.

Exactly right. The quick out is my least favorite pass because if it is picked off it is most likely 6 the other way. That said you use it to keep Defenses honest. The threat of the quick out was what caused the Tampa DBs to bite and left Patrick Crayton wide open for an 80 yard TD. If we take it out of the playbook, we take away that play.
