In 2001 they had Super Bowl support at least, it was a tumultuous year and they were a heavy underdog with a 6th round pick behind center plus the media was riding the Rams as hard as the present day Pats and I for one was sick of the so-called "Greatest Show on Turf".
So in that instance, for that moment I rooted for the Patriots and at the time found it appropo that a team called the Patriots won the Super Bowl under the circumstances of the time.
After they went 8-8 promptly after the win I figured they had joined the pantheon of one year wonders but after their success was regained I've since gone back and marveled at the number of lucky breaks that have gone their way, truth be told they have been a good team but more than once they have been afforded impossible breaks with astonishing regularity.
The tuck rule which was clearly a fumble, come to think of it Brady fumbles alot when hit, they would've been an early playoff exit otherwise.
The 21 game win streak which the Colts could've ended after six had they not fumbled on their own two and ended the game.
The 2003 AFC Championship where Ty Law got away with the same kind of things Deion Sanders did in the 1994 NFC Championship and ultimately changed the outcome of the contest accordingly.
Since then alongside luck their very integrity has called into question their legitimacy and the influence that brought what I previously thought to be luck was perhaps something far more sinister.
