LVE and Jaylon should build on last year and be unbelievable this year. Can somebody put a quick list together of who we lost and who we added on the DLine. The only loss that I can think of is Irving who didn’t play last year anyway.

You can never count on anyone being better than last year. They could get hurt or regress or both. The biggest problem with the D is they have yet to address the inability to stop the run in the playoffs. They need run stuffing DTs for 1st and 2nd down, goalline, and other short yardage situations. If they continue to ignore it, they will get gashed in the playoffs again and have only their stupidity and hubris to blame.

Really can't say Irving is a loss, as he did nothing to contribute last year.
If anything this year, he helped us by leaving, not that the team would have brought him back.

But by him not taking up a roster spot, they can fill it with a productive player that wants to actually play.

We got Covington, and with DLaw signed now, Crawford can stay inside. And now they can focus on drafting a DT that wants to play the game instead of Irving.

This really is an inaccurate take. Our defense is penetrate with athletic DTs, not read and react with behemoths. And we were 5th overall in run D last year. dont let the recency bias of the Rams game cloud the facts.

This is why they brought in Covington. A better McClain, and if you remember the year McClain was healthy we had a very tough Dline to run against. Our front 4 will be very dangerous.

That’s where we are different. I don’t care what they did all year. I care about the end results and in the end they couldn’t stop the run. When it mattered the most, they were either outcoached or proved to be deficient at stopping the run. Therefore, I want it fixed. They don’t need 5 penetrating DTs who can’t stop short yardage plays or hold up in the playoffs. You have to be strong up the middle and it’s starts with your DTs. You can’t give the other team five yards on every carry before the RB is even touched in the playoffs and think all is well because you did better during the season. Other coaches coach and gameplan differently in the playoffs when everything is on the line. The good ones will mercilessly attack your weaknesses and with no run stuffing DTs we are simply handing them an easy target that will be the team’s demise every year if not addressed.

I hope you’re right but I don’t put a lot of stock in players willing to sign the deal he did as early as he signed it.

Agreed. We still need to address DL in the draft in case of injury, under performance, and expiring contracts, etc.

Loss:
David Irving didn’t play
Datone Jones
Carraun Reid
Randy Gregory?

Gain:
Robert Quinn slight improve over gregory
Kerry Hyder improves depth
Christian Covington atleast as good as Jones and Reid combined

Returning:
D Law
T Crawford
Armstrong
Taco
M Collins
A Woods
D Ross

See, I think they need to address DT simply due to the Rams game. It exposed a weakness that just hadn’t been exploited in a pass happy league. But you put the season on the line and a good coach will exploit it. Not having a DT that can clog the middle on 1st down and short yardage is beyond ridiculous in my mind.

One of the best run defenses in the league last year.

No such think as a team that can't stop the run strictly in the playoffs, you either can stop the run or you cant. But it is funny you say couldn't stop the run in the playoffs considering allowed only 73 rushing yards at 3.0 yards per carry in the first round lol.

That was coaching and hopefully Kris learned from it. We literally had 2 bad games against the run last year. Sucks that one of those game were in the playoffs against the Hams.

Going back to demarco the cowboys have dominated the run game. Even when other teams put 8 in the box Elliot is still putting up numbers and killing teams.

I guess by the reasoning cowboys fans use, every team in the league needs to upgrade their dt's. Teams need to invest their 1st round picks in the very large pool of special dt's that grow on trees.

This will be the final nail in the coffin that will turn this league into nothing but passing. Because due to these magical dt's, having a run game will be impossible

Yeah it sucks but it wasn’t a coincidence one came in the playoffs. I hope they learned but I’d also like them to acquire the player necessary to help implement shutting down the run in the playoffs instead of offering the other team a glaring weakness to attack.

Then what happened? They ran into a smart coach that identified a glaring weakness and attacked it mercilessly. That’s what happens in the playoffs and that’s why it needs to be fixed.

Stopping the run was not a glaring weakness for us last season. We just got out coached. No new wrinkles defensively and even as they continued to run on us during the game we absolutely made no adjustments and continued to yell at LVE to do something that he clearly was not getting the message on.....so the coaches didn't even think it was a DT issue they thought it was an LB issue. Not that I'm against getting DTs in the draft but just me personally I think we are solid as we speak at DT.

Then two of our players tore their labrums mid game, and the offense had a tell on our defensive line scheme.

But again, our run defense was good last year. That's not a glaring weakness when it's actually a strength..

We ran into smart coaches all year long such as Pederson and Payton, and Pete Carroll in the first round.

ITS NOT A GLARING WEAKNESS WHEN WE WERE ONE OF THE BEST TEAMS AGAINST IT, STOP CLAIMING THAT IT'S NOT TRUE.

Hopefully the bolded caps will get through.

I’ll claim whatever I want. If you can’t stop the run with the season on the line, it’s a weakness going into the next season. You typing in bold doesn’t make your opinion correct. Not having at least one run stuffing DT that demands a double team on 1st down and short yardages is asinine and has gone on for far too long. The team is close enough now to stop handing other teams a glaring weakness to exploit in the playoffs.
