DL needs

Only two would represent good value at 16... Donald & Barr.

If they took any of the others it would be a reach and for a couple a good reach.

That's not a good way to draft.

Zach Martin
Ryan Shazier

Possibly
Bridgewater
Carr
Mike Evans
Marquise Lee

Would all be good value for Dallas at the 16 pick

Evans would give the Cowboys the best option to Trade down.

Melton can be that guy at DT.

But regardless, you can't lose perspective on trying to find "That guy" in one draft... It simply may not happen.

Plus the sack leader on the Seahawks had 8.5 sacks.

It's not necessary to have that one guy get 15.

Yeah but I'm not going to bank on the rest of the defense playing like the rest of the Seattle defense. You don't need 1 guy get 15 if you have a ton of guys playing like their D does. Our D isn't even close to that.

I desagree that DE is the most needed in this draft. Your 3 tech is the one who needs to penetrate and reek havoc on every play. Lacking this you can have Derrick Thomas and Charles Haley at your WDE and it wouldn't matter because they would never step on the field. Who was most inportant in Minnesota and Tampas DL, Sapp and Randle, or the WDE?

Isnt that why they brought in Melton?

Donald is already getting raves from evaluators as a top 10, best since Randle etc. It is pretty clear that dream needs to just go away. Barr is far more likely to be available, but he also is less of sure thing and would need a lot of work. I saw a writer compare Barr to Barkevious Mingo and he believes that is how he would come into the NFL as a situational rusher. I am not sure Mingo gave Cleveland great value since he did not replace Sheard either. Same for Jordan down in Miami.

Lol! Sometimes dreams are all we have. Anyway, anything can happen.

I like Barr's potential. I don't think it is typically a good idea to draft a player in the 1st round based on his measurables but I think Barr may be the exception. Even if he only came in on passing downs and generated solid pressure it would be a good value. Of course, if he is drafted he will have to start and I think Marinelli can get him ready.

Like I said, I like Martin and I think he would be a great value at 16 if Dallas is limited on options.

He is also on a one year prove it contract. But overall, yes, we need ends more technically. But I think just adding top DL talent is a priority regardless. If Donald is a top 10 player we somehow get our hands on, we would be stupid to pass just because he is similar to Melton.

I don't disagree with you, but you aren't going to fix this thing (defense) in one draft.

You're trying to hit a "5-run" homer and that's not going to work.

If a DE isn't available in round 1, then a DE isn't available in round 1.

I agree I would also say there are some good prospect at DE that will likely fall into the 2nd and 3rd rd of the draft. It is not just 1st rd picks that become top players.

I want DL depth. I don't see us getting a single superstar rusher such as Ware, Peppers, etc. And you know what? That's ok. Give me rushmen by committee who stay fresh and bring unique talents that pose the offense problems.

Just do it with better players than we had last year.

He's playing in a system he knows. Unless the guy is injury plagued then he's not leaving. And im sure Dallas can draft a DT or two with the other 9 draft picks they have other then the two i would hope they use on DEs

I think you can fix the defense in 1 draft. But a lot of "if's" have to happen. If Claiborne starts playing like a 1st round draft pick, if Crawford can stay healthy and lives up to his hyped potential, if Lee can stay healthy, if Carter pulls his head out and starts playing to his potential. Then we need to get 2-3 defensive starters out of the draft. Combine that with an already potent offense, and this team can turn things around. It's definitely a long shot, but one that's reasonably attainable if we draft well.

You have a point, some good health overall would help propel this defense towards mediocrity.

The defensive line may not be totally fixable in one draft, but I think (given a couple good prospects) could be OK for this season.

This is true.
