The decision on Dlaw is coming up.
He has had 2 back surgeries.
He looked like crap in 2016 after the 1st surgery.
After the 2nd surgery, he leads the league with 13.5 sacks.
What happened?
Back surgeries and lineman generally dont mix well.

Any reports?
Was the 1st surgery a failure?
Did he screw something up last year?

I remember in the off season he said after the second surgery his back never felt better and he was able to get leaner and do workouts that previously his back had precluded him from doing. I will say one thing, Mickey Spagnola said his back was really bad last year but he refused to sit out and kept it quiet and never mentioned it to the press.

the 1st surgery was before 2016 season.

did he come back too early?

I'll say it again, this breakout year he's putting forth(conveniently) in an upcoming contract year is troubling to me,as I'm thinking we're probably seeing his best production we'll ever see out of him this year, once he lands the 'payday' ,it's lace up those roller skates & coast thru,,, but,I've been wrong innumerable times in the past concerning motives/human natureo_O

I don't think the first surgery was successful and didn't have the desired result. From what I've heard him say is that the second one was 100% better. We all know that with backs you just never know. He could be pain free for 5 years or a nasty hit or an awkward body tweak and it could hinder him again. Rolling the dice and crossing your fingers I guess. He has been one of the few elite players on an otherwise mediocre to bad defense.

It’s easy to think that. It’s also easy though to point at this production being a product of him being healthy and having experience in the league.

This is so much more than a contract year performance. Not many players can be as productive as he has been. This is legit MVP level play. If he signs a big deal and he’s only 80 percent of the player he has become, he will still have double digit sacks.

One last note...the team should know enough about the player to know his work ethic and if he is worth the investment.

The team can't know

This is the team that franchised Spencer twice and paid Bryant a boatload of money
Both stupid decisions

They typically pay based on past performance and need and the 'shine' of the object rather than projected future performance which is what the contract should ve based on

Just franchise him
If he continues to be an elite DE, pay him after the 2018 season
Simple

Tagging Spencer was a great decision. He was a solid player that we didn’t trust to sign long term. They didn’t know he would be hurt the second time.

Dez?

You can’t predict a receiver will suffer injuries and a revolving door at QB. Dez practiced hard and was productive...no team in the NFL wouldve let him walk.

I hope you're not serious
Good FOs don't franchise tag 'solid' players
Franchise tag is for elite players
Spencer was never even close
He was franchised twice because the FO had no plan and were left holding the bag

Regarding Dez, there were many onnrhus board arguing against giving him a contract BRFORE he signed

spencer had about one half of a season where he was worth it out of his entire career.

the only smart thing to do is franchise DLaw and see if he is a one year wonder, if not then we can pay him

I think as Jerry relinquishes more and more control over to Stephen and the FO. Before they would have paid Demarco Murray big money. Jerry usually thinks with his heart while Stephen is more detached and business like. Now if we could just get him to start shopping at Wal Mart for free agents :(

I think you mean STOP shopping at walmart or turning over dumpsters to see what falls out

dont think it is jerry doing the shopping

I understand it’s a contract year but how can we not sign this guy long term? Last guy for us to do it. D Ware. And also we actually have a pass rush for once.
