The Cowboys spent the 2017 offseason talking about finding their “war daddy” pass-rusher. As it turned out, he already was on their roster.

DeMarcus Lawrence‘s 14.5 sacks tied him for second in the NFL behind Chandler Jones and were 5.5 more than he had in his first three seasons combined. The Cowboys had not had a double-digit sacks leader since Jason Hatcher in 2013.

Now, the Cowboys have to figure out how to keep Lawrence as he is scheduled to become a free agent in the offseason. Lawrence, who made $5.5 million in his rookie contract, expects to remain in Dallas somehow, someway.

I already know what my situation is,” Lawrence said, via Clarence Hill of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “I don’t really care about it because I know how the Cowboys feel about me and they know how I feel about the organization. My agent is going to take care of everything, and he knows how everyone feels

That's almost $18M........if he matched next year stats again, guess where his floor to start contract nego will be? You gotta it.....probably $20-23M price of a 2nd tag.

I was saying franchise all along but Id be happy to get him long term.

Dude was a beast all year. I know its optimistic but he seems to be legit. Im buying.

All this time our war daddy was already on tye roster, developing into a stud....suprise!

Remember when everyone was tearing us apart because we traded up for this dude? Lol

He balled this year and definitely deserves a nice payday I just hope it isn't something that straps the team too badly.

His back is my only concern. He's always worked his butt off, just couldn't stay healthy. Send Tyron to his doctor. Lol

Our defense should be solid if not very good next year.

Especially if David Irving and Malik Collins stay healthy. Yesterday was an outlier but the defense still played well with Daniel Ross taking most of the snaps at DT Sunday. And if you did a poll here who Daniel Ross was prior to the game, most posters would say he was a guy who died at The Alamo.

The defense played much better after they made the switch from Scandrick and got Byron Jones off the field more for the new rookies (who look like they are going to be studs). Of course Sean Lee coming back didn't hurt but the defensive unit certainly wasn't terrible the last 3 or 4 games. Actually resembled a NFL caliber unit. Unlike the putrid Offense....

His mom Betsy sewed a flag or something like that.

Lewis, Awuzie and Woods will all be much better after a rookie year where they were thrown into the fire.

LB will add depth from the draft and FA. Jaylon Lewis should be better with continued improvement, yesterday he looked much closer to the quickness he had at ND.

DL will be better because Taco will improve and take a starting spot, plus Malik Collins should be healthy and much better next year. No doubt they add better DT depth and Tapper could be a good rotational DE as a pass rusher.

How much do we think hes looking to get per year long term?

10-12 mil? or 13-15 mil a year?
