The first pick, in particular, comes down to these 2 guys a) being re-signed or not and b) if re-signed, where they see Irving playing most of his downs. If they now view him as the 3T, I think we can all reason that DT is NOT in play at 19 unless Rod has an epiphany. So, LB/OL/DB seem to be the most logical. FIRE AWAY!!!!!!!

The tender Dallas assigns to Irving will make a big difference.

Personally, I would go with a first round tender. If they try to get all cute and pinch pennies for a million dollars and put a 2nd round tender on him, some team is going to go right after him.

I am torn whether the 2nd round pick trade-off would be worth it.

On one hand, it is an extra 2nd. On the other, we almost always blow those on injured or risky players.

I'd rather have the second, it gives us the ability to move around the draft and possibly flip it for a first the following year. Additionally, we get a young talented player for cheap if we use it this year.

Or tight ends that we never use because Witten refuses to step off the field for a few plays a game

This is a huge huge issue that nobody wants to touch.

The staff has the same God-like reverence for Witten that fans do.

I really do not understand it. I would hope they want to present the most mismatches they can so they can win.

Witten playing a key role in the offense is an impediment to that.

At this moment, he can whip the unskilled, sneak by the skilled but still do just enough to remain productive.

I just don't get it. There is no disgrace in going out like Tony Gonzalez did.

But Witten has dug in like a tick in this organization's hide.

It is a problem.

I don't get this line of reasoning.

We dream of drafting a player that plays like Irving who has produced and at times dominated ( I can't comment on his mental make up or marijuana use). Now we value a 2nd rounder more than him?! There are many 1st rounder that haven't had the production Irving has. Do you know how hard it is to find good DL war daddy?!?

If FO think Irving can be a professional and won't get in trouble he should be signed to a long term contract!

The whole rub here is if the front office thinks he is trustworthy.

That idea alone scares me. I don't trust this organization to make the right decision.

We have taken the chance on far worse character risks and been burned.

Unless there has been some sort of epiphany and a policy made accordingly, I don't see how they could look at Irving any differently than any one other of Jerry's Special Kids. At least this one is more functional.

I love Witten like many in the Zone do...but I am ready to move on from him at this point...I would HATE to see him in another uniform, but if a legit OC came in and wasn't on the clapper/jones leash, then witten would not get as many snaps....you let him know the day AFTER the draft (after drafting a TE somewhere in the 2nd or 3rd) that he will be splitting time with the current TEs and the rookie...Witten is too proud, that could punch his ticket into retirement (take Marinelli with you, please)....time to move on from Witten and time to move on from the coaches that thing he should get 95% of the offensive snaps

Following year? When are we going to prepare for the now? This is why we are always next years/offseason champions. Drafts picks are cool but cmon

Here is a name to remember...Jarron Jones...He's signed to the roster right now...listed as an offensive tackle. But @ Notre Dame....he was a DT...and a damn good one. I think another NFL team tried to move him to the O-line...why? I'm not sure. but if you draft someone ike Payne in the first to pair w/ Collins as your starter...Jones could surprise. Plus this whole concussion deal...is no laughing matter..throw in the suspensions...another one =10 games....I'd be happy w/ a 2nd.

Remember...players came...players go....sometimes getting something in return is the best move. In the NFL...it's a lost art. Patriots seem to be the only team that gets it. Getting rid of players right before they are through....to recoup some value is the way to go.;)

Very much so. Can't think of another team where this is acceptable or allowed.

and how many sacks did they combine for in their rookie year? It's a long shot that we get a player who will develop into a better player than Irving is now, and an extreme long shot that we get a guy who is better in year 1.

Of course which ever player we could draft with that second rounder would not have the impact of a player who is entering their 4th year in the NFL. We may not even go with a Defensive lineman with that pick. Always a crapshoot of some sort when drafting.

However, I'm not too opposed to seeing them let Irving go IF they feel uncomfortable about his long term health due to the concussions and if there is any off the field issues with him. Aka if Bryan B. actually got legit sources this time.
One thing the Pats always get praised on is trading guys they don't see in their long term plans, mainly due to money to retain said player.
If Dallas doesn't feel comfortable giving him am UFA contract at the end of the year, and they know some team will put in a claim if they go with a 2nd round tender, I won't be upset.

It’s the worst option. It’s a win now league not this lame “process” Garrett has conned fans into believing.
So say we flip this second rounder for Clevelands 2019 first. Zeke gets hurt, we **** the bed in 2018, Garrett is fired and you are excited about the new coach and staff and they have the 3rd and 7th pick overall. Still the worst option?

Anything that gets Garrett fired is good to me so that’s not a fair question
