Ware was a great player.

Now he's a good player.

And even this season he's followed his career path of the last few seasons... Explode to start the season and then tail off.

He had 8 sacks, 6 QB hits and 13 hurries in Denver's first 6 games.

Over the last 8 games: 3 sacks, 6 QB hits and 13 hurries.

I don't agree with this at all. He didn't bark and chirp but he would hit the snot out of QBs and ball carriers given the chance.

He was a great individual player but his softness permeated this defense - they took on his character. He was by such a large margin the best player that they took on his attitude. He would have been much better off if he came into a defense lead by a vocal leader who energized the troops but there really was not such a guy when he came onto this roster. He needed to lead but he could not do it. It is a shame Sean Lee could not stay healthy because he could have been that guy for Ware.

He was never really the same player after that 2009 season when he suffered that neck injury. He would get progressively nicked up more and more throughout each subsequent season. Eventually he started getting nicked up in preseason.

At this point he really should be a situational pass rusher and be restricted to about 25 plays a game. The problem is it is hard to justify paying a guy $10M per year to do that.

Maybe so, but I would take 6 sacks, 12 QB hits, and 26 hurries for a season (his last 8 games x2) from ANYBODY on our team. He's still head and shoulders better than anyone on our line.

It was the right decision parting ways at the time, but man... This team would be so much better with him out there.

Ware was anything but soft. A player doesn't have to be an in-your-face Dez Bryant type to be tough. Different leadership styles.

Oh I'd take him too, but not at $10,000,000.00 for the season or whatever ridiculous amount it is.

You are permuting his off the field behavior with his on the field. He was not emotional leader. He was still a very physical player that could bull rush Walter Jones and hammer opposing ball carriers just the same. And while the Cowboys 'needed' leadership putting the onus all on him is asinine.

in regards to comparing Ware's pass rush style to DLaw's, one thing that always irked me about Ware's style was constantly getting too far upfield and taking himself out of plays entirely.

this! its what a player does that cares mostly about their sack #s

I think he's a bust. But that said look at the Texans.Jervon Clowney already has to have microfracture surgery.Likely he isn't going to do much either. So hey it happens maybe I am wrong. He isn't Demarcus Ware thats for sure.

I don't know what QB you saw him hit the snot out of but every time I saw him sack the quarterback he practically laid them down in a feather bed

Should he have speared him too? There are highlight reels of his plays. He stood up and bull rushed 325 lbs men regularly. He sloughed off backs and TE that tried to block him.

When you talk of feather beds, you sound like a media narrative. Wade Phillips, cup cakes, and feather beds. You cannot play like he did in the NFL and be timid as you claim.

Still amassed double digit sacks. Second in sacks on his team after Von Miller.

I would take 10 Ware sacks this year with this crop of guys on defense. Would you?

You bet! IF his contract was reasonable.
