Hey now, Myers was actually halfway decent for a few seasons for us. Or maybe I'm thinking of his years after Dallas.
 
Our added talent and depth this year on defense will surely be felt by the opposition. I cannott recall any offseason when what we have added in terms of sheer talent and personnel has been any more dramatic. It's difficult waiting for the season to get underway this year. The Giants will be hard to handle but I think we'll be even harder to handle if our injuries are kept within reasonable bounds. Losing Murray may hurt to some extent but our defense and an improved passing attack is more than likely to take up the slack.

I am hoping that you are right. I think of what Randy Moss did in Oakland and compare it with the way Moss played once he moved to New England. Hopefully we see the same thing here.
 
I've said it before, but I think McFadden will fit our offense well. It won't be the same style of running or the same style of offense we had last year, but it will cause teams to be more careful I think than they were last year. I don't think anyone was afraid that Murray was going to break a run from our 20 for a touchdown. I think the lack of a real threat on the ground allowed teams to just stack up against us. I think stacking up against McFadden could make things even worse for you in the right circumstances with the right seams created by the offensive line.

That said and as many others have said, he still has to stay healthy.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. When I watch the "tape" from last year McFadden looks ok to me like he's running hard and getting what's there (he doesn't finish like Murray, but he's definitely faster than Murray). Even though the metrics are terrible. I have no answer for this disconnect and interested to see what McFadden can do behind a good offensive line.

That stipulated, can anyone think of a really good second act for a running back in McFadden's situation and particularly his age. It just doesn't seem to happen much. O.J. Anderson went to the Giants at the end of his career and helped them some. Dorsett had a couple of decent seasons with the Broncos as I recall but nothing special. Marshall Faulk had a great second act, but I don't think anyone was questioning his ability at that point; they just wanted to go in a different direction (similar with Dickerson). Herschel Walker had some decent years in Philly as well.

On the other hand there is a long trail of once great running backs that proved the second time that they were really done: Franco, Eddie George, Earl Campbell, Dorsett to some extent, LT, etc. Point is running backs don't seem to age well and it may be a lot to expect a rebirth in a career at this point.

His gliding speed is what gives him a chance. The little I've watched his low-lights while at Oakland I saw a guy who didn't have the decisiveness of the backs on the Oakland roster, hence that may be the reason why the disparity in YPC between the backs. DL bursting into the backfield seem to bother him more than the other backs.

Perhaps the difference in offensive lines will allow McFadden to perform to the level he showed in his last big season.

We're talking night and day in O-lines.......If anything, he'll freeze in a state of shock at what he thinks is a hole. ;)
 
Reserving my opinion on him until I see him in game situations. No doubt the talent is there, If he can stay healthy I think he will be above average. The question is can he stay healthy. If he can, we should see the playoffs again this year.

The problem with looking for previous RBs that were great in a 2nd act is that there probably were very few that were in a similar situation to what McFadden is in this year.
1. How many of those players went to a team with a top 5 OLine?
2. How many of those players went to a team with a top 10 passing threat?
3. How many of those player were only 27 when they got to the 2nd team?
 
No faith in the guy, he's soft...If he has anything left, he most likely wont stay healthy. Its looked like he has just been collecting a paycheck for years...Would love to be wrong, but I doubt it.

Thomas Jones is a pretty good one. Wasn't until his 5th or 6th year that he really got things going (with his 3rd and 4th teams).

No. That's wrong.

Player injury is one of many examples of bad news. Another is the news that even after a successful season and signs that another is very possible the whiny crybaby fans that root for our team are still around and crying. :D
