...Yet once the clock starts Sunday night against the New York football Giants, as head coach Jason Garrett likes to say, the quarterback will play two games in a span of five days and three games in 12 days.

Will he alter his practice routine during this stretch to stay fresh?

“I don’t think I’m going to do anything,’’ said Romo, who concentrated on his core work instead of practicing with the team as he’s done on every Wednesday since Sept. 17. “It’s really about this week and getting ready for the Giants.

“Once that game is over, I’ll set up a different plan and talk to trainers and coaches and we’ll go from there. But this week it’s not about thinking about next week at all. You’ve got to get yourself ready to play in this one game and against the Giants.

“This is a very important game, a big game for us.’’

Romo said the bye week came at a good time for him. He’s now three weeks removed from suffering a pair of transverse process fractures in his back. He said that injury is improving and he hopes “it will be a non-factor here shortly.’’

Apprehensive is too strong a word. But does he wonder how his back will hold up to playing two games in five days?

“I think we’ll address that next week,’’ Romo said. “Right now, I have a full week plus the bye from last week to be able to get myself ready and that was big.

“I think after the game against New York, we’ll reassess everything, but that’s not on my mind right now.’’

I really hate all the fretting over "OMG!!! 3 games in 12 days!!!" That makes it sound like we're playing a game every 4 days.

A NORMAL NFL schedule has guys playing 3 games in 15 days. Or 3 games in 14 days if you start with a Monday night game.

So yeah, 3 times in 12 days is a bit busier but it's not some insanely unfair stretch that our guys can't handle.

Tony's back is not structurally unstable, compared say to a shoulder or knee that has ligamental deficits.
It's just been traumatised enough to hurt constantly, be tight and limited in range-of-motion, and sensitive to spasms.
He'll be medicated to help control that, but you may have noticed that his flexibility is still subnormal, affecting agility, reaction time, and throwing motion/strength.

Let's just hope he stays upright, 'cause Vaughn isn't ready yet.

Nobody cares about the game after Thanksgiving. The team will have plenty of time to recover. It's the Sunday night to Thursday afternoon stretch that sucks.

On an athlete you cannot even see the those bones on most average people you can see those bones on an exam. The only thing tou can see of the vertebrae ona physical exam on most people is the center "piece" the other processes are buried under soft tissue

In the pic above the vertebra actually has 5 processes, the transverse being one of the larger ones that are almost 90 degrees off of the largee on in the middle.

And yet we keep hearing "3 games in 12 days!!!" as if that's some Herculean task.

That Sunday-Thursday stretch will suck, but it isn't THAT much shorter than what teams who have played Sunday then Thursday night go through.

The Eagles' stretch will be a tad bit longer but they're traveling roughly the same distance AND they're the road team on Thanksgiving. Their challenge is every bit as tough as ours.

Nobody said it's easy for them. But you're wrong when you say their stretch is as hard as ours. Simply not true.

An away division night game followed 4 days later with a division Turkey day game is the tough part.

The drawing actually is actually pointing out a superior articular process; the transverse process is not shown.

It's not a great drawing or great angle, but I'm pretty sure that is the transverse process pointed out correctly. The superior articular process is above it, just posterior to the nerve.

Ha, good point, I've never thought about it that way.

I'm most concerned about Romos back in the short turnaround since every day seems to really help him, damn I wish he didn't get smashed on that blitz against the friggin skins

Considering the fact that we're coming off a bye week before the stretch AND we're the home team, I'd say it's about even.

Even if Philly has the advantage, it's not a huge one.

There are only 3 teams that do not have a stretch of 3 games in 12 days on their schedule this season.

Sounds about right.

Hell, if you start with a Monday night game and end with a Thursday game, a team could conceivably play 3 games in 11 days.
