DMN Archer Blog: Austin could miss 4-6 weeks......

nyc, read Hostile's post above, Austin's not eligible for the PUP list.

I'm quite aware, I was just making a point about so many people wanting to put him on PUP in the first place. Even if he was eligible, it wouldn't be the right move.

The only way is if we picked up a big-time receiver. Then he could miss a full six games and be activate and put the extra receiver on the practice squad. (Danny boy maybe)

Just thought by your reply, you had missed something.

No biggy, carry on....:pc:

Yo TO! Get your HyperBaric Chamber Ready! :laugh2:

And how will that help Austin catch better with his hands?
Sorry, I'm not sold on Austin. He may be one of the most athletic players on the roster, but that doesn't mean he can catch any better than last year.

I think every ball I have seen him catch this year has been with his hands - not body.

You know, I didn't get to see last weeks game, but I just saw the highlights on NFL.com and he made two BIG-TIME catches with one of them being for a TD. If the man can consistently make those type plays, he is easily our #2 receiver over Hurd.

I don't get to see everything since I live in NY, but everyone is saying his hands are much better this year. From what I have seen, the man is making plays. A receiver making plays is a receiver catching the ball.

As for catching better than last year, I heard is spent A LOT of time with the JUGS machine over the last offseason.

Austin and Hurd are not playing for hte #2 WR spot; they are competing for the #3 and #4 WR spots behind Crayton.

Austin's first critical play this preseason was a Romo pass on 3rd and short, where Austin ran a simple route - a slant in - and dropped a sure-catch that was perfectly thrown, because instead of catching it with his hands he tried to body-catch it and the defender jarred the ball out.

When I watch Austin I notice that the only time he catches with his hands (i.e. extends his hands to meet the ball at the height of his reach) is if there is ample space between him and the defender; otherwise he uses his body to shield and catch (i.e. let the ball come to him at the lowest point of his reach). The truth is this body-catching tendency won't fly against real defenders in real games because it will lead to dropped/defended passes.

Sorry, I'm still not sold on a guy who still shies away from catching with his hands in traffic - and a #3 WR needs to excel at that, especially in traffic where coverages can be tight.

There was speculation of Austin pushing Crayton for playing time also. If Austin keeps making plays, he could easily push Crayton into the third spot just for his ability to strech the field for TO, Witten, and even our new fangled Felix Jones.

No, you're right -- I was there and he stood out as the team's best player on offense. He really did look quite impressive. Zach Thomas stood out on defense big time. Sometimes you get a little different perspective when it's live versus television (not saying one is better than the other, just different), and those two guys really impressed.

We cannot lose Zach on this defense, I'm telling you right now -- he is going to wind up being the most important acquisition we made in the entire offseason by far.

I just want him to put Brandon Jacobs on his *** like he did Keon Lattimore! :laugh2:

He can sure produce better than he could last year.

Crayton is really a 3WR and would be better in the slot. Austin can stretch the field more than Crayton. That's why he'd be a #2WR. Amendola is a 3. Stanback is a 2. Or a 1. I know its not exactly that simple but that's the rumor.
