That's interesting, Mike, since you just shot down your own argument. Had Harrell been drafted would that have made him part of the "notoriously bad" NFL drafting practices? For a coach whose program hasn't had much of a draft history, it's hard to take Leach seriously. Until receiver Michael Crabtree was taken in the first round on Saturday, Texas Tech hadn't had a player taken higher than the fourth round under Leach.

Ouch.

Ouch?

11-2
9-4
8-5
9-3
8-4
8-5
9-5

With 5 bowl game victories in that span. Dang. He must be a pretty crappy coach to have all this success, with the piss poor talent that comes to Lubbock, Texas.

Ouch.

That's what I was thinking when I read that.

when Texas won 6 straight against TAMU, did it cease being a rivalry? I think not

If the NFL doesn't know talent, then the NFL might make the argument that Mike Leach doesn't know how to produce talent. There are only four currently active players drafted from Texas Tech in the NFL since the 2003 draft, according to NFL.com. Four out of 11 drafted. None of them are quarterbacks. Oh, and did I mention that for the first time during his stay in Lubbock, Leach did not have a player drafted in 2008.

We'll see what happens but I can't recall many free-agent quarterbacks doing much other than carrying clipboards -- if that.

Funny, without even thinking hard, I can name two who have done a lot (Kurt Warner and Tony Romo).

What Leach was trying to say was that he thought McGee was a talent...wasted talent.

He was a passing stud in HS and one of the best in TX. Then he goes to A&M and becomes a running, wishbone, veer, whatever kind of offense. He wasted 4 years. He got drafted though, becuase of his talent.

Leach know's QB's...they might not get drafted...but they can play college ball. Everyone is afraid of what will happen now...since the Andre Ware/Klingler experiments.

IMO Harrell will make it somewhere....he's too smart not to. He's a coaches son and is as accurate as they come....and he's as cool as Tom Brady in the pocket. He may not have a cannon....but neither does Pennington...they remind me of each other...very very smart and the same arm.

Leach says stuff all the time to get under people's skin. Sort of the way Phil Jackson of the Lakers does.

He's not a typical blowhard football coach, or the fake, used-car salesman type.

And he doesn't give a rat's behind what the other coaches think of him.

In a time when so many of these college coaches are slick con men, Leach is what he is -- a peculiar guy who thinks outside the box and does his own thing.

His success at Lubbock is impressive.

Texas leads the series with A&M 75-36-5.

Can you really call that kind of domination a rivalry?

A&M is the annoying little brother that had one decade of success, the 90's, other than that, it has been all Longhorns.

Oklahoma is Texas' real rival, and Texas owns them too, 58-30-5

Don't care about that. Didn't say he was a bad college coach. His players just obviously don't translate into great NFL prospects. So his opinion regarding how his players will translate in the NFL aren't very relevant. Crabtree is going to be an absolute stud but Harrell will be lucky to make it past the scout team.

I'm a Baylor alumni, I'm well aware of Baylor's cautiously hopeful future in the Art Briles era. The team hasn't won a bowl game since i was in the fifth grade back in 1995, come to think of it I believe that was Dallas' last bowl as well.

Briles is a heckuva coach and Rob is a great QB, has been since HS.

Its going to be fun seeing how far they will ride each other in the next couple years.

The mutual obsession between A&M and Longhorn fans leads me to believe you have no idea what you are talking about.

Texas REAL rival is OU. Texas other rival is a&m. Just look at recruiting if you can't figure this out.
