Aikman raves about Romo
2:18 PM Thu, Dec 06, 2007
Tim MacMahon

Tony Romo has already shattered the franchise record for touchdowns in a season, and he's on pace to obliterate the yardage record, too. Those records were set by Danny White in 1983, but Troy Aikman and Roger Staubach set the Hall of Fame standard for quarterbacks around these parts.

But Aikman said that Romo's performance this season is by far the best by a quarterback in franchise history.

"You don't have to be a rocket scientist to know that one. Right?" Aikman said in a chat with media at Valley Ranch today. "I mean, seriously, I would say that it's been by far the best season a quarterback has had."

Aikman acknowledged that Romo won't be satisfied with his season unless the Cowboys win a Super Bowl. (And, by the way, Aikman believes the Cowboys could beat the Patriots three or four out of 10 meetings.) But Aikman certainly won't argue with folks who say that the Cowboys' two Hall of Famers never had a season this good.

"If you put my best two years together, I don't think you'd come up with the numbers that he's going to have at the end of the season," Aikman said. "Unless Roger's got a beef with it, I certainly don't."

This has to be bogus since we have many on this board who tell us that Troy is supremely jealous of Romo, and on top of that hates the Cowboys and just delights to run the team in the dirt.

So, PLEASE STOP POSTING LIES!! ;)

We need to count our blessings.

Romo was sent from up above ... to heal the faithful and destroy the NFL East.

For the most part, I was thrilled with his play last year.

I am absolutely stoked about his play this year.

Unbelievable. This is something great.

Aikman didn't do that for 10 years and he was first ballot HOF. If Romo does this for 6 years and win a SB, he'll be in.

Well to be fair to Aikman this is a different offense. The offense when Aikman was QB for was centered around Emmit Smith and the running game. Romo is not going to get the kind of Numbers he's getting if we ran the ball like we did in the 90's.

Aikman will be saying that before long--watch, wait and see.

I don't intend on upsetting anyone.......so just over look the above Zoners

You guys are funny. You make fun of people who say he is a hater based off of one comment. Then you turn around and justify he is a lover off of one comment.

Truth of the matter what he says to the Dallas media has nothing to do with his game broadcasts.

Flame on

Agree. This is a different era and a much more passing-oriented league. I have my doubts on whether Aikman would be as effective though. Romo has the mobility to evade and make plays. Aikman's strength was a drop-back quarterback that relied heavily on timed routes.

We're fortunate to have a franchise quarterback again after a long spell of revolving quarterback "tryouts" during the recent years.

I disagree. Romo is the BEST QB we've ever had, but he won't be the greatest until he has played at a high level for several more years.

Lots of players have put up incredible stats for a year or two then faded into the dust, Kurt Warner is a good example of this. He won't be in the HoF because he didn't sustain those unreal numbers over the long haul.

Romo is having the best season ever by a Cowboys QB and I hope he has even better ones in the future (no more 5-INT games) and we win a bunch of SBs with him at the helm, but let's give him a few more years before we consider him the greatest ever. Staubach & Aikman were great for a long time, Romo needs to be as well.

I still say Romo is some sort of advanced super android built deep beneath Vally ranch, and only Jerry knows where his USB port is. ;)

I think you're on to something.

The wiring was a bit off during the Buffalo game, but they got it fixed. Let's hope he doesn't get hit extra hard one of these games and coils and springs pop out of his chest and smoke billows out of his ear holes.

I prefer Romo too, but I don't think it is fair to compare him to Aikman. If Aikman would have played for the 49ers of the 90's , then it would be easier to compare. The same thing goes for Irving, if Emmit wasn't on our Team, his numbers would have been a lot higher.
