Another OTA workout ahead

Because of Tuesday's rain, the media was not allowed to attend the OTA at Standridge Stadium, but we will be there today so check back for Timmy Mac's observations and then the stuff I will post to contradict what Tim said.

Some things I will be looking for today -

I'm hearing good things from Valley Ranch people about Kevin Ogletree, the undrafted wideout from Virginia.

Patrick Crayton has made some eye-popping catches in the first two sessions that were open to the media. I want to see him more.

Mike Jenkins. The No. 1 pick from a year ago is likely the starter opposite Terence Newman. He's got a new number (No. 21) so we'll check in on him.

Keith Brooking wants to show everybody he has plenty left. I'm going to look for him today.

And for those wanting line updates, sorry. Without pads, it's too hard to tell who's doing what. I will look to see who's playing where but to make judgments, I think, is too early to do at this time of year with those guys.

Check back later for some updates.

At least Archer seems to have more of a clue than the rest of the mediots.

This is one of the things I hate the worst about the reporting from these activities.

So and so made several circus catches.

So what?

Most of these players aren't bad players and have hands of stone. What I want to hear about is who they played against, how their routes were and so on. The fact that Crayton beat some fourth string CB we know won't make the team is hardly impressive. Nor is hearing about him having to make a one handed grab of an errant pass that interesting. We already know Crayton is going to make the team.

When the hitting starts, highlight reel catches aren't that important in the overall scheme of things anyway. I want to know more about the little things, not something that makes more spectators clap. Archer can do better than this.

Keith Brooking wants to show everybody he has plenty left. I'm going to look for him today.

Now this is better. I want to know how he looks in coverage and who he was covering.

OTA are a great way to get the players in so they can get some work in together as units and start developing some chemistry as a team. However there is not much that can been determined in OTA until the pads come on and things start getting more physical these session tend to be no more than pitch and catch.

I think they can at least tell us who's lining up where.

The offensive line is a worrisome area for some of us and I'd personally like to know if the team has any viable candidates at left tackle behind Adams, who's worrisome enough in his own right.

You can see who is lining up at a certain spot today but even that is subject to change once training camp rolls around.

I'm glad Keith Brooking is out to prove he can still play

alot different attitude than the one Zack Thomas had, I can't quite put my finger on what attitude it was, but it seemed that Zack just wanted to coast through the season, and ride our coattails to a ring

it just didn't feel right

It didn't look right either. I get what you are saying about not being able to put your finger on it. Thomas just looked like he was trying to appear like his reputation when he was on the field, but he just honestly wasn't playing all that well.

Seeing him bounce off Breaston like a pinball in the Cardinal game was pretty pathetic. He'd make tackles that were really ordinary and went out of his way to be enthusiastic afterwards, like he was almost showing off. It was strange. I know he was brought here to be a "leader" but I think even he said he couldn't step on James' toes.

He just didn't appear sure of himself, like he was uncomfortable in his own skin. Maybe it was the shock of being in a Dallas uniform or maybe he was used to being the top dog and couldn't. It just didn't look "right". That's the best way to put it.

Hopefully Brooking isn't a repeat of the same thing. I anticipate it should be different just for the simple fact that he should know this defense very very well.

I didn't like how Zack just wanted to blend in, be one of the guys, defer to Bradie James

I mean, what future HOFamer does that?

I don't know. But you do see that when other Hall of Fame types closed out their careers. The reason why they were so respected as leaders as they backed up their talk on the field and excelled. Once the skills have eroded, there really isn't much there to back it up.
