I understand your point. But considering what was at stake, it was the wrong time to challange. It was not a clear cut case. Was his left arm down? Did the ref rule foward progress was stopped? When they did rule forward progress stopped, where was the ball. Spotting the ball is an inexact science. Based on all the above, he should not have challanged. See the forest not the trees. Reid was farily desperate all night. That was the one thing that gave me confidence in our team was Reid felt the need to 'reach' for help as if he didn't trust his team to beat us.
Good point.

And I agree with Double Trouble that it wasn't an obvious first down. But for some reason I keep reading all over the interwebs that it was and the refs blew the call.

He's not the only one worried about Folk. Folk used to be money. Now, every kick is a rollercoaster. He makes them but some are barely inside the uprights. And even some of the chip shots look worse. Something is definitely different this year.

Its almost always a waste to challenge the spot on the field. It is rarely reversed, b/c the visual evidence has to be so overwhelmingly obvious and due to piles it's to hard to have a good reference of what body part is down and at what point.

General rule of thumb: Dont challenge spot on the field.

except in a Cowboys' playoff game

I still cannot figure out how they found indisputable visual evidence to move Witten back and cost us a first down where we could have run the clock out and Barber would have scored the winning TD in Seattle.

The Eagles got a bad spot on the 4th down player were McNabb rode the pile. It was a good challenge by Reid but didn't go his way.

They couldn't change the call, because they couldn't see McNabb's elbow to see if it was on the ground.

The fact was that the whistle actually blew when McNabb's forward progress was stopped, not when he slid down the pile.

Are you sure you're a Cowboys fan?

I've watched the replay and you can't really hear the whistle. At least I can't. From the angle on the field, you can't even see where McNabb is when the whistle would have been blown. He's on the side of the pile opposite to the camera and they never replayed the play in real time from any other angle.

And yes, I am a Cowboys fan. I just don't see the need to BS myself.

They don't let you challenge the spot in that situation. You have to challenge whether it was a first down or not.

The ref said they were "challenging the rule on the field of the forward progress spot". Sounds different than 1st down or not.

That horrible call got lost in the shiny ball hoopla. IMO, that had a bigger impact on that game than anything else. Damn shame when the officials determine outcome.

As far as Folk is concerned, it's either McBriar's inexperience holding or cobwebs after Folk's surgery. Whatever it is, I hope they work the kinks out -- soon.

That's what Collinsworth was thinking.
