DMN Blog: Assessing Miles Austin's Pro Bowl chances/Butler fails to impress

Considering many here wanted Spencer to give up playing time to him, I would think he should have played much better. I have been told he is a great LB and he should be starting. The reality is he is just another young player who has a lot to learn.

Most people wanted to see him get some 3rd down passing situation snaps not to start over Spencer.

Sorry this is the issue with to many fans it is one extreme or the other which is not what people where wanting they wanted too see Butler in on 3rd down and long passing situations

just because I found this funny and I dont care for the local fox4 crew anymore.

SOrry I didnt mean to imply that he didnt like butler, the opposite actually. I think they are really high on both of them. I thought williams was going to be great after I saw him in camp.

Do you have an opinion on which player looked the best?

I guess if you want to take the better player (Spencer) and sit him for a very young inexperienced one trick pony that's OK, but be prepared to live with the mistakes. So far Butler has shown very little ability to take good lines to the ball carrier and seems to be blocked very easily on run plays. I would hate to see him in coverage against a good TE or RB. Heck, our coaches have LB's covering very athletic WR's. Not a good idea with a rookie.

It was training camp and I was only there 2 days.

They both looked really good to me.

Well, Butler has been focused on pass rush and he mostly spelled Ware in in run situations. What the hell did folks expect would happen?
According to some members here it has been one of Wade's cardinal sins for not relying on their extensive knowledge of NFL defenses and starting V.

As I said before the guy has great potential and is a physical freak but he gets blown up vs the run and just isn't ready.

My hunch - Fitzgerald, Austin, Rice and Jackson are the top four after the player/personnel votes.
And those are the four that should make it.

Austin should be a lock for the Pro Bowl... Butler is a rookie, what do people expect from his first "start".

I re-watched---DVR in hand--the game.

I saw in Butler a player who took very poor angles, got knocked around easily, and whom seemed lost on his assignments and positioning. He provided no productivity at all.

That said, he is a rookie. Sometimes the light will come on with kids and you see marked improvement. When they get the mental part down then they look like a different player.

But right now he isn't ready to help this club except maybe for very obvious passing downs. He does have some speed on the edge as we've seen.

I was thinking the same thing about Butler as Wade. He missed some assignments and at least once didn't run at full speed toward the qb when he was untouched. He also didn't expend a lot of energy running down the field after whoever had the football. I was extremely disappointed in his performance. I've watched the game four times now to check different guys.
