Austin becomes Romo's target at finish

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Miles Austin has emerged as quarterback Tony Romo's favorite target late in games.

In the first four games of the season, Romo threw only two passes in the fourth quarter -- both incompletions -- to Austin. Patrick Crayton was the top fourth-quarter target, with five catches in 10 chances for 145 yards and one touchdown.

The dynamic changed with the overtime win at Kansas City. Starting with that contest, Austin has 13 catches in 18 chances for 276 yards and three touchdowns in the fourth quarter and overtime of the last six games. Crayton is next in that span, with eight catches in 12 chances for 93 yards.

``Under pressure, Tony and Miles are hooking up well,'' Cowboys coach Wade Phillips said. ``I think that's real important for us as a team. (Austin) has come through under pressure, being there for Tony.''

And what of wide receiver Roy Williams?

For the season, he has five catches in 13 chances for 86 yards and one touchdown in the fourth quarter.

I'm happy to see things working out for Austin. He is a good guy and has been level headed with the attention he has received. I look forward to more big games with Miles

What seems to be the problem the first 3 quarters of games when Tony doesn't even seem to look Austin's way? I find it hard to believe that we cant scheme up something to get Miles the ball on a more consistent basis.

he did but austin didnt catch the ball, then i think romo didnt look at him again

thats the problem when you need them to catch the ball to keep moving the chains the wrs arent coming through till the game is totally on the line etc

Lol @ people feeling the need to defend somebody who isn't performing with a pro bowl qb. Talk about sad.

Is anybody actually doing that in any of these threads? I don't know that I've seen it.

The entire WR group needs to step it up...

The last 3 games, Austin has 9 catches for 116 yards and 1 TD. Thats a 3 catch/38.67 yards/.33 TD average.

With Roy underperforming..... Austin falling off, someone's got to step up.

I see Ranger Cassy is on the patrol to defend RW. Must be such a tiring job doing all that defending of Roy, huh, Cassy Smith?
