There's been lots of talk about a change at backup quarterback with the Anybody but Brad Johnson brigade being loud and clear.
Things did not go well for Johnson on Saturday. He had the interception and there was a mixup on a running play near the end zone that forced him to just go down. But it must also be pointed out that he didn't have much help from his offensive line or tight ends in pass protection.
As a whole, Johnson's performance in training camp practices has been better this year than last year, but for the sake of argument we'll go with what many of you want: cut Johnson, sign Chris Simms.
With the Sept. 7 opener fast approaching, if the Cowboys want to make a move at No. 2 they need to do it soon if not yesterday. It would be difficult for any quarterback to come in and learn the new system in 20-something days and be comfortable enough to be Tony Romo's backup.
I'm all for adding a quarterback, I just don't know it is the No. 2 spot right now. There's nothing wrong with keeping Johnson and adding a No. 3 to groom as the backup.
