Cowboys rookie David Buehler is tied for third in the NFL with eight touchbacks. Atlanta's Michael Koenen has seven.

The Cowboys are holding opponents on kickoffs to an average starting point of the 22.2 yard line, which is fourth in the NFL. Atlanta has the best starting spot, allowing teams to get to the 19.8 yard line.

Eric Weems is averaging 28.6 yards per kick return for the Falcons. The Cowboys will be unveiling Allen Rossum for the first time Sunday.

How goes the kickoff battle could play a big part in Sunday's game and Buehler knows it.

"It definitely gives you the desire to do your job well," Buehler said. "You're always competing against yourself but when you're going against another team that has done what they've done, you push yourself that much more."

Buehler needs three touchbacks to tie Toby Gowin for the third most in a season and eight more to tie Gowin's mark for the most in a year after the NFL moved the spot back to the 30 yard line and lowered the kicking tee.

I hope he kills nobody out there. Like Stallone said "When you're pushed killin's as easy as breathin'."

Thats it? Have we been that bad, or is he that good?

I have a feeling Rossum will be a difference maker on Sunday. Spent 12 years trying to get back home...I think he'll be willing to put on a show.

I found the stats interesting, but you know it's been a long bye when they start writing articles about kickers.

Will Michael Koenen hit Cowboys' video board?

Posted by Michael David Smith on October 25, 2009 8:37 AM ET
After flaring up as a major story in the preseason, the possibility of a punt hitting the Dallas Cowboys' video board has become a non-issue.

Atlanta Falcons punter Michael Koenen may change that today.

With the Falcons preparing to play at Dallas, Koenen has openly discussed trying to hit the board in pregame warmups, just to see if he can. And he says the board -- which is 90 feet above the playing field -- might just obstruct one of his punts in the game as well.

"If I accidentally hit it, I accidentally hit it," Koenen said this week.

Koenen doesn't have the strongest leg in the NFL, but he is known for booming high balls that get good hang time. When the Falcons' punting unit takes the field today, you can bet Cowboys owner Jerry Jones will be paying close attention.

I hate Kickers.

...the game winning FG.

It's easy to minimize the contributions of one position or a specific player, until you really need them to do their job.

There are times when I would really like Dallas to go back to getting guys off the elementary classroom floors and see what we field as a team.

I personally was appreciative with what the Cowboys rolled out in those days and was astounded we could even develop kickers who were as unheralded as the Cundiff, et al.

Having the specialists we have now I hope there is a greater appreciation for what these guys do.

As for Hos...can you really have a leopard change their spots? :)

I hope he does. It will do nothing but wear out his coverage unit, and hopefully allow Rossum to get a big return.
