If Forbes.com is right, Bigg Davis is one of the world's 25 top-earning athletes this year. The fact that Forbes lists the Arizona Cardinals as Davis' employer makes me question its accuracy, but there's no doubt that Bigg is one really rich dude.

That's why I found it funny to hear him grumbling about the price of a plane ticket. He's headed to his home in Arizona this weekend, and he waited too long to buy the ticket. He was rather perturbed about forking over $1,400.
Bigg has an eight-figure bank account, but he doesn't think that makes it OK to waste money.

He told me about a recent trip to a gas station when he paid with a $50 bill before fueling up. His tank was full at $49.61, so he went back inside to collect his 39 cents. The clerk couldn't believe it.

"If something in here costs 39 cents, can I just take it?" Bigg asked. "I didn't think so."

Nothing wrong with being frugal with your money, regardless how rich you are, good on him.

As Bill Parcells was fond of saying to the reporters many times, "It is not about the money."

I actually love this story...and not for the way it appears on the surface...but it gives me the impression that this is someone who thinks, assesses situations and pays attention to details.

Good for Bigg... I always like stories like that.

Just because you have money doesn't mean it's right to waste it. ;)

I know a lot of rich people who are quite 'cheap'. I guess the right word is not really that they are cheap but that they will never get 'cheated' out of one cent. They count their change and make sure everything comes out right. Godd on em.

This is the reason why I HATE pre-payment on gasoline pumps.

With all the plebian gas thieves running around these days I understand why they have to have it, but it sucks.

The thing I hate and will tear a clerk a new one for is requiring pay at the pump and then not having any paper in there for the receipt.

As long as he is not cheap when it comes to tipping the waitress. After all that is a lot of food for a girl to be carrying. :lmao2:

All depends how you are cheap.

I've got a friend who is very well off. So much so that she can now afford to take half the year off of work. However, she is a huge pain in the butt about going out to eat. She closely calculates what everyone should pay and the wait staff would pretty much have to kiss her feet to get anything more than 10%. I've taken to carrying a some extra bills to slip the wait staff to make up for her. Also, if you go to her house, you better bring your own food and drink.

That sort of cheap is just wrong.

There's a difference between being a cheapskate and wise.

A cheapskate would complain if the plane ticket was 200.00.

Someone wise with their money would complain that the ticket is 1400.00.

Someone who is a cheapskate doesn't have a tricked out Hummer or truck like he has.

They have a 1989 Chevy Suburban with the bumper duct taped on.

Someone wise with their money would have bought a ticket in advance.

Or he can wait until the last moment and hope the airlines slash prices on unsold seats. Heck, that's how I plan my vacations. ha ha

$100 roundtrip from NY to Orlando.
$200 roundtrip from NY to LV.

All last second deals. Plane's leaving tomorrow. ha ha

Risk of that is not able to get a seat during certain time that you want to on a vacation. I know there has been few times where I had to go on a business travel with little notice and seats were full and the company had to pay for first class travel in order for me to attend a very important meeting. I guess rewards outweighs risk if you are lucky enough to get a seat for relatively cheap price.

I still think Roy Williams' (DET) story was cheaper... how can a guy like that not throw a pizza delivery boy a couple bucks.
