Blame the Tuna for Hester slipping to Chicago

I've gone all week without mentioning that the Cowboys selected Anthony Fasano four picks before the Bears took Devin Hester in the 2006 draft. You can bet the fact that Fasano being a Jersey guy who played for Bill Parcells protege Charlie Weis had Notre Dame helped his stock in the Tuna's mind.

Hester is already arguably the best return man in NFL history. Fasano is arguably the best backup tight end on the Cowboys' roster.

At least the Cowboys addressed the return game by getting Skyler Green a couple rounds later.

Also...little known fact - Parcells gave me syphillis.

I told everyone it was from using a public restroom.

As much as I liked Hester coming into the draft by no means did I think a team should even touch him until the 4th round.

Hester going in the 2nd was a reach but a reach that has payed off bigtime.

I had Hester on my draft board, but I had him going in the 4th. Chicago saw what I saw when I did research on him, but they were nervous he wouldn't be around after the 2nd round, so they jumped on him. Gutsy move by them that worked out, but yeah, I had him touted as the best return man that year.

I thought he would be good, but not this good.

He came out after his Junior year to 'feed his family'.

He never really had a true position at Miami. He didn't start at corner and was used on some Offensive packages.

Larry Coker promised him he would use him like Reggie Bush was used at SC, but he bolted anyway.

The LSU Miami Bowl game was a rout with Hester on Offense.

I thought he might sneak into the 3rd round from his projected 4th but thought no way he would go in the 2nd.

Stupid story or not, that doesn't change the fact that Parcell's really butchered that draft, especially after the brilliant draft the year before. We didn't get a single starter out of the bunch. Why you take a tight end with no chance of starting, in the 2nd round is beyond me. Tony Curtis, undrafted, is arguably just as good a talent with just as much upside.

What about all the other teams that passed on Hester? I'm sick of the Cowboys being put under the microscope for every player they DIDN'T draft. You could say the same thing about every other team who didn't draft a particular player. Every team can look back on a draft and say, hmmm, maybe we should've taken that guy instead. But only the Cowboys have to hear about for the rest of eternity. Moss, Merriman and now Hester. Give it a rest.

Hester will fizz out just like Dante Hall did.

Put that in your pipes and smoke it.

The best return man in history after one season and two games? Can someone say hyperbole, people gripe about Romo's acclaim so early in his career and then turn around and say something as ridiculous as that?

Uh.... your on a Cowboy's forum, what else would you expect? I'm sure if you go to the Vikings blog, it's full of people wondering why they took Troy Williamson with the 7th overall pick.

Agreed. Not sure why it's controversial or "impolite" to point out that their second rounder is outperforming our second rounder at the moment. He didn't call Fasano a bust.
