As part of our continuing efforts to use this offseason (however long it may be) to continue to grow our brains about the NFL game and the finer points of Dallas Cowboys football, I wanted to reset a few things on the new defensive coordinator, Rob Ryan, and items regarding his hiring.

Here is one of many emails that I have received regarding these topics:

Hi, Bob.

I enjoy and appreciate your film breakdowns. I was wondering if you've considered doing a series breaking down some of Rob Ryan's defensive schemes used at Oakland and Cleveland? With nothing else going on right now, I'm sure there would be a ton of interest in seeing some of what the Cowboys might be doing.

Thanks, Mark

Elam would be a nice pick up for sure and a big upgrade.

Oh, wait.

The Cowboys used to have him and decided they didn't need him. :)

That is a big upgrade from Alan Ball if you are talking about playing him at FS. That is where Sturm talked about playing him. He states that Ryan's safeties are inter changeable.

We may wind up signing several Browns defensive players to help with the defense ... especially if it's a short off season.

Disheartening doom and gloom about short off season by Sturm. Hope it turns out otherwise.

Still, it would be interesting to see the defense grow in complexity over the course of the season.

I said back in 2008? that we needed to keep Elam. He made plays all preseason long.
