Quick takes on the matchups when the Cowboys meet Carolina Monday at Cowboys Stadium:
When the Cowboys run
Even if Marion Barber does not play, the Cowboys should be able to control the line of scrimmage. In its first two games Carolina is allowing 168 yards per contest and they lost starting defensive tackle Louis Leonard. With Barber, Felix Jones and Tashard Choice the mix of styles makes it hard for any team. EDGE: Cowboys.
When the Cowboys pass
The Panthers have the No. 3 ranked pass defense but that's deceiving because their run defense has been awful. Tony Romo must make better decisions after a three-pick game in the home opener. So far Romo has been sacked once and the Panthers have recorded just two sacks. Opportunities will be there. EDGE: Cowboys
When the Panthers run
After struggling in the opener, the Cowboys bounced back vs. the Giants but showed some vulnerability in the second half. Carolina attacks differently with speed in DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart and a big line. The Cowboys must be ready for the cut backs, which makes back-side contain a must. EDGE: Panthers
When the Panthers pass
So which Jake Delhomme and which Dallas pass defense shows up? Delhomme threw four interceptions in the opener but had 308 yards last week. The Cowboys have yet to record a sack or pick off a pass. They have struggled with the big plays in two games, and Steve Smith has had his moments against the Cowboys. EDGE: Even
Special teams
The Panthers' coverage teams are struggling. It allowed an 85-yard punt return for a score and 29.4 yards per kick return. Even if Felix Jones doesn't return kicks, Miles Austin is almost as dangerous. Two of the top kickoff guys - Rhys Lloyd and David Buehler - will be on display. EDGE: Cowboys
Intangibles
The Panthers, who have lost three straight to Dallas, are 0-2 and come in as the desperate team, but the Cowboys must win their second game at Cowboys Stadium after dropping the opener. Of course, Indianapolis lost its first two games at Lucas Field before a year ago before winning the final six. EDGE: Cowboys
