Canty: DeMarcus Ware is the best

The Charlotte Observer conducted a Q&A with Chris Canty at the defensive end's camp last week, at Charlotte Latin, his alma mater.

Canty paid tribute to Jerry Jones, Tony Romo and Terrell Owens in the conversation, but left the highest praise for front-seven mate DeMarcus Ware. His words ...
Q: Who do you think are some of the best players in the NFL right now? "When you talk about best players, I want to talk about difference-makers for their football team. LaDanian Tomlinson is a difference-maker. I think it was apparent in the playoff game when they played against the Patriots. He wasn't able to go, and that team just didn't have the same juice that it had had during the course of the season.

"On the defensive side of the ball, I've got to be a little partial - DeMarcus Ware (linebacker, Dallas Cowboys). Probably one of the best natural athletes I have ever seen in my life and one of the most athletically gifted. I remember the first time we got to Valley Ranch (training facility), the guy ran a 4.3 (40-yard dash) on grass in cleats. I was amazed, it was amazing. He's one of the best natural athletes, he's going to get you 15 to 20 sacks a year, and he's going to be a future hall-of-famer."
That 4.3 number seems pretty hard to believe. The notion that he'd put Ware atop all defensive players isn't.

He's got to be pretty quick. With that first step he should be capable of putting up a good number. I'm not certain it would be a legit 4.3 though. A kid at Clemson just did a 4.05. Do you really think that non electronic timing was near close (although the kid definitely can do a sub 4.3).

Just to think a 260lb man could be mistaken for a 4.3 is something. I sincerely doubt he can run a legit 4.3 but to think he is in the neighborhood is quite phenomonal.

Just give Ware the money he wants for his next contract and move on, it's just the cost of doing business. It's a no brainer. I'm sure he'll probably get a record breaking contract but I don't think Jerry will hesitate one bit.

There is no question. Jerry has no problem compensating you fairly. Ware will be compensated for what he is - the best OLB/edge rusher in the NFL.

I think he ran a 4.51 at the combine. That's ridiculous enough. Wouldn't be surprised if he's ran some hand timed 4.3's.

I remember on another board in 2005 I said ware was already our best player and he is one of those once a decade type players.

They all ganged up on me and laughed. I can remember a few people on that board laughing at me and telling me roy williams was a much better player.

Goose said leading up to the draft he ran in the low 4.4's for teams in private workouts, which is why he was the draft's fastest riser. If he's just cutting loose at the practice facilty I'm sure he can run faster without all the pressure and scrutiny of a horde of scouts eyeballing him.

Athletic ability will never be a problem for Ware. What I'm waiting to see is if he has the nasty disposition and competitive intensity to reach that Charles Haley/LT level, or if he's just happy to be Pat Swilling.

News Flash from the modern offices/warehouse of Air Cowboys America in Farmers Branch where contractors go to retire.

Not only that but Ware seems to be a good citizen off the field.

We are watching a HOFer emerge.:)

When I look at Ware coming off the edge NO one in the NFL is faster, I believe he's the best defensive player in the NFL right now.

not related really but I got banned from more than one place as a troll for saying julius jones was very limited and that it would eventually prove out.
Hindsight is a funny thing.

It would be really cool and neat if the NFL refs knew how quick Ware really was and would quit calling him offsides just becuase he can move his body across the line of scrimage before a center can move the football to the QB's hands.

Yep, that would be really cool.

And they are saying that Tank is even quicker than Ware is off the ball. So I hope Dallas does some educating and communicating prior to the season to all concerned.

I think it would be great. But I think this came from reporters, so who knows...we will know for sure when the season starts. All I really know right now is that Tank looks very intimidating when they interview him....paint him green and he could be the incredible hulk.

Hate to add to the hyperbole on Ware, but I can't help myself.

I believe he's the fastest pass rusher coming off the edge I've ever seen.

I can't believe the youtube replays I've seen of him getting flagged when he wasn't offsides.
It's so incredibly fast you almost can't blame the refs. It's like nothing they've seen so they can't keep up.
It would be funny had it not cost us so dearly in the Giants game.
