Brooks Bollinger just trying to fit in

Brian Davis

New third-string quarterback Brooks Bollinger is still learning where the bathroom and the weight room is here at the Valley Ranch complex. The six-year veteran isn't here to take Tony Romo's job, but Bollinger is trying to figure out what to do should Romo and Brad Johnson get hurt.

"Right now, I'm learning," Bollinger said. "Just keep my mouth shut and my eyes open.

"The first thing you've got to do is get comfortable with not only the playbook but the guys and the daily procedure. There's a few things you've got to get right before you feel comfortable. Just spend time with the playbook to get familiar with what they do here, and we'll go from there."

For the record, Bollinger said he got several offers before settling on the Cowboys. My guess is the decision to come to Dallas was finalized long before this happened or this.

I, as many others here, still don't understand this move whatsoever. I really hope we draft a young backup next year.

I think the rationale is that Brad Johnson will be off the roster at the end of the season, either retiring or being retired. That leaves Dallas in need of a veteran backup. The signing of Bollinger now is in anticipation of that opening.

With Brad gone and Bollinger as vet backup I believe Dallas will absolutely bring in a young QB to groom for the future. Draftee? Bartel? Who knows? One thing we know, Dallas was willing to lose Bartel for the future for the chance to test drive Bollinger to replace Brad Johnson.

I doubt very seriously that Brad & Brooks will both be on the roster a year from now.

They will bring in a young guy last year. Bartel is out or they would have kept him on the PS.

I think this is still reaction to losing Matt Moore last year. If we had kept Moore, we'd be set at QB for the next few years.

Yeah at least we kept Terry Glenn on the roster so he could participate in 3 plays... ;)
