Can Glenn be good without Parcells?

It's easy to forget Terry Glenn's history of causing trouble for his coaches. He's a bit overshadowed in that regard by another receiver on the Cowboys' roster. And Glenn hasn't caused any significant problems since arriving in Dallas four years ago.

How much did Bill Parcells have to do with Glenn's good behavior the last four seasons? We'll find out soon enough.

It's clear that the Tuna, who famously referred to Glenn as "she" during his rookie training camp with the Patriots, was able to get the most out of Glenn. Glenn has had four 1,000-yard seasons -- three in his five seasons under Parcells and one in his other six seasons.

Glenn's two previous NFL teams got rid of him for much less than market value. Bill Belichick basically booted him out of New England, suspending him for all but four games of the Patriots' first title season and trading him to Green Bay for a pair of fourth-round picks. The Packers gave Glenn to the Cowboys for a sixth-rounder after one season.

It's way too early to say Glenn will cause trouble for Wade Phillips, who went out of his way to rave about Glenn during the Cowboys' first minicamp. But Glenn's refusal to come to Valley Ranch for voluntary workouts certainly isn't a good first step.

If Glenn was much younger, I would be little concerned but at his age, knowing he is on his last leg, I don't think he'll have any issues, at least hope not.

As you get older you usually mellow out. He knows this is his last big paycheck; he knows this is it. I really doubt there will be any trouble.

Honestly a stupid question.... but it's cool since it is low-tide in terms of Football news.

Pacells has always been a bad play-caller on offense if you ask me, but moreso as the game has evolved and BP has been a stickler for his way or the highway approach.

Probably, Glenn will have even more chances to make plays in Garretts' offense, though I am not saying the chances will mean much if Glenn doesn't produce.

Glenn realizes he has a great quarterback that will give him opportunities to do some good stuff on the field... I often think of what he says about Romo heading for "greatness" rather than all the negatives that float around...

Bill Belichek didn't want him. Too much of a headache that he didn't see the use of effort Parcells had put into him to keep him around. For 2 4ths he was gone.
Brett Farve didn't either. Mr. Wide Receiver Hog/Desparate, just didn't want him. For a 6th he was gone. For a 6th!
But Tony Romo will find him invaluable? What, for his braids, as his next celebrity date? As his mini-pimp, what? Garretts here, old skool is back, this puppy is going to focus around our top wideout, our tight end, and our running back, all being put together in a nice neat little basket by our quarterback, ala Irvin, Novacek, Smith and Aikman. Glenns' production will plummet as our 2nd wideout and his mouth will rocket without the Tunafishman here to drawn him down. If this has any chance of being contained, it's all on Jerry's shoulders as the leader of pro sports biggest propaganda machine, not Terry's "maturity" because I've yet see any signs of him having one.

I don't think he wanted to be there and was a malcontent.

He could have put up big numbers there if he had just played it nice, because Favre would have thrown to him more.

Yeah maybe, wonder if something was going on in his life those couple of years...

Often-injured WR Glenn is again, out at least week
Aug. 12, 2002
SportsLine.com wire reports

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- So far, Terry Glenn has lived up to his reputation, both good and bad.

He's impressed the Green Bay Packers by running terrific routes and showing he has got great hands and enormous potential -- and he has disappointed them by proving he can't stay on the field.

Glenn's latest injury, a strained left knee, is worse than first thought and he'll miss a week to 10 days of camp.

Glenn has been sidelined since Wednesday with a strained medial collateral ligament in his left knee, his second injury of training camp.

He accompanied the team to Philadelphia for the preseason opener Saturday night and watched the game from the sideline.

"And the knee just seemed to digress during the game and get sore," coach Mike Sherman said. "And flying on the plane this weekend probably didn't help him a whole lot."

Glenn knows there are those in the NFL who question his toughness and consider him injury-prone -- former Patriots coach Bill Parcells once referred to him as "she."

So, after he hyperextended his right knee on July 30, he didn't want to get off on the wrong foot with his new teammates and showed up the next day in full pads and a helmet, begging the coaches to no avail to let him practice.

He returned the next day and made several spectacular catches.

Injury problems are a big reason Glenn hasn't duplicated his rookie season in 1996, when he set an NFL rookie record with 90 receptions at New England. He's played in every game only once, in 2000.

He missed all but four games last year because of injuries and disputes with the Patriots. His checkered career in New England came to an end this winter when he was traded to Green Bay, where Sherman hopes he can invigorate the Packers' passing attack.

Glenn and quarterback Brett Favre are still getting used to each other, and everybody in the organization has made a point of saying it's going to take plenty of time.

Glenn said recently that he and Favre will be in synch by the Sept. 8 opener against Atlanta, a time frame that seems overly optimistic to Sherman, who retooled his receiving corps in the offseason.

Veterans Antonio Freeman, Bill Schroeder and Corey Bradford, who combined for 85 touchdowns in Green Bay, have been replaced by Glenn, rookie Javon Walker and second-year pro Robert Ferguson, none of whom have ever caught a pass from Favre in the regular season.

"Our receiver group as a whole, when you revamp a position like I did, it's a work in progress and it will keep getting better," Sherman said. "I didn't expect to have a finished product in the Atlanta game and certainly not even four or five games in.

"I think it will be something that will continue to get better throughout the course of the season and into next season and on. So, it's a big picture project."

Ferguson has a strained groin but he fielded punts Monday. Walker has a sprained ankle but he also practiced.

Altogether, the Packers had 13 players sit out Saturday night and lost four more players to injury in the game.

-----------------------

If I had to guess, it would be injuries. And I've also read where he just wasn't considered a WC receiver (whatever that means.

They might be counting getting caught peeing behind a dumpster as trouble, i don't know. Still I wouldn't consider that trouble at all, they might though.
