Whole lot of 1-on-1 attention

Dave Campo followed Mike Jenkins, the cornerback taken with the Cowboys' second first-round pick, all over the field. John Garrett was in second-round TE Martellus Bennett's ear all morning.

But nobody got more 1-on-1 attention than undrafted offensive lineman Brandon Hale, a Sam Houston State/Grand Prairie product who is a long shot to make the roster. That's because he's the only offensive lineman here this weekend.

Hale appreciated the opportunity to get so much attention from legendary OL coach Hudson Houck, who broke down Hale's technique step by step for two hours. But it was strange for Hale not to be surrounded by a bunch of fellow big fellas.

"I spent the whole practice doing like this," Hale said, looking to his left and right. "I'm used to having somebody around me."

Garrett worked with Bennett on his technique getting out of breaks. Campo worked with Jenkins on his footwork. Jenkins said he has to learn how to play off the receiver after being primarily a press guy at South Florida. Campo wants to be careful throwing too much, too fast at the corner.

"There's a fine line between coaching a guy and overcoaching a guy," Campo said.

I am glad Campo is back with the team as the DB coach...I think his addition was overlooked this off-season. He is just what the doctor ordered WTR coaching the secondary next year with the different personalities, playing experience and system familiarity. If verything goes as it should, our secondary will be very, very good next year.

Here's a thought:

Let him continue to press receivers.

It didn't look too great to me when Reevs played 10 yards off of every receiver he attempted to cover. That didn't work so well. Why not let the guy play to his strengths? Strengths that were good enough to be considered by some as the best cornerback in this year's draft.

Yeah, there is a fine line between coaching and overcoaching a guy. Don't draft a player and try to turn him into something he's not.

I know I'm probably making a bigger deal out of it than it is, but I never like hearing stuff like this.

I really would like to see how this secondary is different with Bowles gone.

if press coverage is his strength then Wade and Stewart should recognize that and use him that way. All we heard last year was how they were going to have the players do what they do best. So this year hopefully we'll see it

Because if that corner gets beaten off the line can we trust Roy to pick him up with safety help?????? That's a big HELL NO!

I don't think he is saying that we won't use him pressing the WR, just that playing off is something he's going to have to work on when we do require him to play off because he really didn't do it much in college. I would imagine that pressing a guy like TO is much different than a JuCo transfer that goes undrafted so he may need to have more tricks up his sleeves.

Keep the reports coming.

What did Felix do?

He spent most of the day on the sideline trying to start up the portable generator which powers Jerry's hype machine. Get ready for some WOW!

1) It is entirely possible to overload someone when teaching them something. He just got drafted, has to move, has a contract to worry about and is in a completely new environment.

He is being taught what boils down to choreography and perhaps its a good idea to allow him to grasp the tango before you start in on the charleston.

You can take pot shots at Campos time as a head coach but as an assistant he is one of the best we have. I can think of no other secondary coach Id rather have teach a young talented corner than Campo. The list of corners he has made into probowlers and solid starters is long and distinguished.

2) I am sure the coaches are not morons and will continue to allow him to do what he does best but really its in his and the team's best interest to work on his weaknesses. Build on his strengths and shore up his weaknesses. If he can only do one thing then teams will find a way to exploit it.
