Let's say they got this access

(a) Do you think the assistant coaches would reveal really anything more than what Parcells did? He told us it was the same two players screwing certain things up. That was enough for most of us to figure out who it was - a week later, Mosley or someone regurgitates what we already figured out by listening to Parcells and watching the games.

(b) Do you think they would use the information to inform - or entertain? Something tells me the axe-grinders and prominent guys aren't interested in accurately describing what went wrong - just how they can blame Bill for what went wrong.

They already have extensive access, and very few coaches give the access to the HC that Parcells does. By and large he's truthful with them. Maybe I should give them the benefit of the doubt, but I doubt their focus will shift from sensational to informative just because they can talk to Todd Haley. Maybe some markets - but the guys in Dallas?

I don't see it.

We get more good info and insight and indepth research right HERE on this board then anything I have seen anyone of the so called EXPERTS or the other ****** in the media provide. And that happened this last year. So SCREW the media- they deserve NOTHING.

No offense but all you really get here is rumors and speculation. If someone is injured, it's the media that reports it. When a coach is hired or fired, it will be the media that reports it. When something happens in the locker room, it's the media that reports it. All people do here is copy and paste the stories then talk about them. That's the difference between being close to the team and sitting at home posting your opinions, most of the time opinions formed from something you read in the media to begin with. By the way, if the media is so useless, stop reading what they write and listening to what they say. My guess is that will last three minutes.

Earth to Winky - that's what I was addressing. I KNOW it's entertainment. It became clear to me when football began entertaining me. I dont know what gave it away.

I'd like to hear more from the assistant coaches.

They'd be misquoted and so on, but that's true of anybody who is covered by the media. So we'd just have to take the reports with a grain of salt - which is what we have to do now anyway.

Yeah I do think assistant coaches would give a little more than what Parcells did.

And as far as "ax-grinding"-- Parcells deserves to have an ax ground on him. For $5 mill a year-- Jerry Jones and the fans got hosed.

Assistant coaches and the media


Some of you folks jumped on beat man extraordinaire Todd Archer about reporters wanting access to assistant coaches.

I'll ignore the media-is-evil comments, but I wanted to address the thought that a team has a better chance of winning when assistants aren't allowed to yap publicly.

These assistants didn't get jobs in the NFL by being morons. They're not going to hand over game plans to a guy with a recorder and notebook. But they can help us add a ton of detail and color to our stories, because of their Xs and Os knowledge and the relationships they develop with the players they coach.

I spent the week in Seattle leading up to the Cowboys' playoff game and had access to any Seahawk assistant I wanted, just like every other reporter. It was a huge help to me and apparently didn't hurt the Seahawks at all.

Mike Holmgren's policy of making his assistants available to the media also didn't prevent his Packers from beating Bill Parcells' Patriots in Super Bowl XXXI.

Total BS. As I said, I got more out of this blog then the mediots gave. ANd I seriously DOUBT that was because of the assistants not being allowed to talk. Time and again, someone on this blog beat the mediots to the story.

Oh. and by the way. Just because the new Commissioner says something- does not mean it is true or a good thing. Media pressure and image dominates the league office- not truth and the right thing to do.
