As expected, Tampa Bay cut QB Chris Simms, making him an unrestricted free agent.

Jerry Jones said on draft day that the Cowboys would be interested in a young, experienced QB to groom behind Tony Romo. A story in the St. Petersburg Times mentioned that Simms hoped to hear from the Cowboys and Packers after getting cut.

The Cowboys are confident in soon-to-be-40 Brad Johnson as Romo's backup, but a third QB would definitely seem to have more value than, say, an 11th offensive lineman.

Maybe they are planning on releasing Marten and will wait to sign a Simms(or other player)until other teams already have their practice squads filled. That way they can get Marten on their's.

Could be.

why would simms want to come to dallas when he could go to the vikings, packers, or bears?

i don't think he's looking to just be a backup qb.

1. Maybe because the Bears have a lot of lousy offensive players.
2. Maybe he doesn't want to be a backup to Aaron Rogers in GB.
3. Does he want to sit in Minny?
4. He & Garrett worked together as backup QBs 3-4 years ago in Tampa. Maybe he hopes/believes he'll get better chance to develop into a starting QB some day.
4a. Cowboys a very high profile team so any move up the depth chart would draw national exposure/interest from other NFL teams faster then going to any of the above..

He's not going to start for any NFL team right now.

I assume the Cowboys want Simms but don't want his Tampa contract.

Because he must like Texas to go to school there.

I think he knows his role as an NFL player right now. He wouldn't start in GB..I doubt he would start in Minny. The Bears he could start, hell I could start there.

Simms himself said he would like GB or Dallas

Once you are waived or cut, you are no longer under contract. Dallas is free to sign him at whatever they can work out with him and his agent. The only thing his previous salary affects is Tampa Bay's Salary cap.

Dallas is a good fit, he can learn from both Wade Wilson and Jason Garrett. Plus Johnson is most likely in his last season as well.

Yup. Agree completely.

Simms can move up to the number 2 spot fairly quickly, IMO.

And he has time to work on improving his game with quality coaches.

best chance at a Ring to top it all off........:starspin

Bucs released QB Chris Simms, according to NFL Network's Adam Schefter.

They should've traded him during draft time, when Tampa Bay was offered a mid-round pick. Now, he's available to the highest bidder. The Bears are known to be interested in Simms, who's 28 and didn't play badly in camp. Aug. 30 - 7:00 pm et
