Second-year linebacker Victor Butler was inactive for the first time in his career for the Dallas Cowboys' loss to Philadelphia on Dec. 12. The Cowboys got Butler's attention with the one-game benching.

Butler returned to the active roster for Sunday's win over Washington and played well. He participated in a season-high three tackles and had a fourth-quarter sack.

``I was glad to be playing,'' Butler said. ``I wanted to be wearing this uniform.''

Wait... after a season of suckage from multiple guys and Butler's the one who gets benched?

Pure genius.

Did you ever think that he could've been benched for something other than his play on the field?

I hope so.

It worked.

IMO they want to know if BWill is going to be a guy who can spell DWare or even fight Spencer for snaps. Got to look at the guy in-game and sitting V (who I think is a lock) made sense.

They make it sound like he was "benched" for something practice related, perhaps not practicing well, not knowing his responsibilities, lolly-gagging, goofing off, etc.

I was suprised he was inactive against the eagles.

Ratliff ware and spencer have been getting a ton of plays off. they were off the field for like 4 or 5 staight plays when the skins got into the redzone on the tying drive.

I think that is one of the changes that has taken place, more subs for ware and spencer.

I like butler against the eagles with his ability to run, but he just seems very light, like he cant play the run.

hmmm.......so that is worse than not playing well...as in Spencers case?

I still think that's his problem. Doesn't mean he can't be a nice rush specialist, but I doubt he's ever a full time player for that reason.

And BTW, on that last sack he made, not to take away from him, but the Skins blew a protection and left him completely unblocked. The back literally ran right by him and barely even looked at him.

After re-watching the game, I wish he and B-Will had played even more than they did. It's not like I saw them blowing a bunch of assignments out there. (And on this topic, I saw where some were claiming BW played some inside linebacker... When was that? Because I never saw it... Unless it happened early in the game and I missed it.)

I dont remember seeing him at inside unless it was an odd alignment in the nickel. I havent rewatched the game yet though. Leon williams was inactive sunday though so that did create a problem.

Butler said on the post game show the other night that the backers have been banged up and when keith was hurt and missing practice, spencer has been playing inside backer.

I found that interesting. I imagine the team realizes inside linebacker is a shaky situation for next year and that is why they signed cummings.

Maybe they should try something like that with Ball or a few of the other starters not doing squat.

that's kinda interesting. I wonder how Spencer looks there.

I could have sworn that I saw him there too. I made a mental note to go back and watch the game again and check on it. At the time that I thought I saw it, I just thought that with Lee banged up and I think it was James they had to grab someone to put in the middle. Like I said, I was going to go back and check this but the mental note was erased I guess.

I was the one who posted it. This is what I saw:

2nd quarter:

2nd and 7 at DAL 22. S.Moss left end to DAL 30 for -8 yards, tackle (B.Williams).

PENALTY on DAL-T.Newman, Unnecessary Roughness, 15 yards, enforced at DAL 30.

I missed this one, though:

3rd quarter:

1st and 10 at DAL 33 (Shotgun): R.Torain up the middle to DAL 28 for 5 yards, tackle (B.Williams).

I went back and checked and he did not play in the middle. The play that I was thinking of, we played with only one LB. It was at about 8:30 left in the 4th. He was lined up outside and almost made the tackle.

It always amazes me how people react on this board. Here is what you see here......

1. There is no accountability on this team! Players aren't worried about their jobs

then a guy gets held accountable and .......

2. Wait... after a season of suckage from multiple guys and Butler's the one who gets benched? Pure genius.

Sometimes I think people here don't know what they want to see. I for one and very happy to see guys benched if they don't tow the line. Accountability is a good thing and I'm very happy to see Garrett doing so and not broadcasting it to the media.

Yeah, I was about to post that to Randy... On those plays he was playing OLB like usual.

I was just curious because it would seem like an odd move to put a former defensive end rush specialist inside, although it could happen.

Anyway... Play these guys more. If nothing else it gives Ware and Spencer more of a rest.

Shanahan makes examples of Haynesworth and McNabb.

Garrett makes an example of an unknown 2nd string LB Victor Butler.

Bill Cowher would motivate the troops by spitting on his punter Josh Miller while yelling at him so hard.

Coaches. To each, their own.:)

When they bench Buehler, the '09 draft will be a complete bust.

BTW. Spencer did play a at least one play in the middle after Lee went out and when James got dinged up for a few plays.
