The Marquis Floyd pickup doesn't make much sense. He's 29 and has already bounced around the nfl and arena league. Seems like a waste.

He's a stud on special teams looks like.

It was just Arena League but the guy was making tons of stops on STs.

Yep, supposedly that's why Pittsburgh signed him -- for special teams.

I didn't understand why we did this until Wade said today that Butler sprained his knee. That's probably behind this move.

I wonder if that means Jason Williams or Curtis Johnson get activated against the Giants.

This is why the concept of us not having tryouts in season is so silly.

We churn the PS as much as anyone and in doing so we see a number of bottom of the roster type guys in practice situations for a lot more than 1 short workout.

That gives the staff a chance to see if these guys can pick up a defense/offense and learn special teams roles.

I don't generally think much of these types of moves but we have developed Romo, Austin, Crayton and a few others from essentially the scrap pile of UFA so we do cull diamonds from the rough occasionally.

Exactly, you keep looking, churning and eventually you might run across a promising player.

but its fast for a LB...

Yes, good speed for a linebacker, but he is light in comparisions to our linebackers, because in most 3-4 style linebackers, you have to be like 6-3 and about 255 or bigger, to take on those big offensive linemen because you only have 3 down linemen.

Ding, Ding, now youve got it, hit the nail on the head. Special teams, thats what butler does mostly and with him having a knee injury, we have this guy for insurance.

Now, its up to curtis johnson to see how he plays, remember he hasnt been active last few games and when he was active, he had like 3 penalties on special teams in 3 days. That can kill you in a game as most of us know.

yep, you always churn the bottom of the roster, so players wont get complacent

That is such a crock. Players at the bottom of the roster are never complacent. They know they are one phone call or bad practice from being cut.

Starters can become complacent, but they are not going to be churned from the team.

If Dallas is looking at other players, it to fill a need, or to replace a player who didn't turn out.

All this comes from Jimmy Johnson cutting one player (who deserved it) one year.

2 years ago that was a problem because wade didnt believe in changing rosters once the team was set, he believed in family team and you should keep such players and coaches no matter what.

That all changed midseason when special teams were bad and good ole wade's rear end was on the line, after the disaster in phily at the end of the year. You do remember wade saying changes have to take place dont you?

you do remember us keeping bruce r... the bad special teams coach dont you and brad johnson dont u that couldnt play qb and the defensive coordinator too dont u, well several players said in 2008 at the end of the year, that players had gotten complacent and content, just to be on the roster, etc

sometimes a coach has to be hit between the eyes to see that some of his coaching style and belief wasnt working, and he has to adapt to change

that has always been one of wade's problems

wade got beat in playoffs in buffalo due to poor special teams
wade got fired in denver because he said, i let another coach run the defense, i will never do that again, but what did good ole wade do when he got here, had brian stewart as defensive coordinator that was way out of his league as a defensive coordinator.

you do remember all of that dont u M'Kevon?

and you churn players at the bottom of the list, or you demote them from a starting position like wade did with patrick crayton on special teams return teams and as 2nd wr

when crayton was demoted, he took notice, worked harder, took some advice from rossum, etc

sometimes players have to be rechallenged

you do remember that dont u

Actually, he got advice from Rossum, who was the only experienced PR that Dallas had on the roster. Had nothing to do with "churning." And Crayton's replacement as #2 had more to do with what Austin does, and does better.

Both has nothing to do with churning, but just getting a better player in the spot. If Rossum doesn't get hurt, Crayton doesn't play.

In both cases, the change was based upon improved coaching, not the players, as you stated.
